Como Waterfront Cafe

We visited this cafe located on the marina with some friends and it was a pleasant experience. The staff were friendly and looked after us really well. The food came out quick, was good and we loved the coffees. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. You can also take a walk along the marina and there are some nice views along the river. The only thing we didn’t like was it was a little over priced for what we got. Other than that it was good.

Today I visited the cafe with my sister and between us 5 of our children. We were greeted by a friendly young lady who was helpful. Unfortunately when I went to order I was treated very rudely by which seems from the other reviews here may have also have been the manager. Myself and my sister had already eaten but were taking our children for a nice lunch before they return to school next week. I was questioned to the amount of children's meals I ordered which I had to explain there was 5 children not 4. I ordered 1 coffee for my sister and was questioned why I wasn't ordering anything for myself in an untasteful manner. To say I was shocked is an understatement. I explained why but felt very unwelcome as she was clearly unhappy with my order. The restaurant was not busy at all and I was told if we were taking a table it was expected that everybody on that table ordered something. In these difficult times we are living in many people are having financial hardships so may order less than other times. This wasn't the case for me, but if it had of been I certainly would have gone away feeling pretty miserable after been treated so rudely. Other than that unfortunate experience, I feel it is in a lovely little spot and the other staff seemed lovely.

If you are looking for grumpy old ladies to make you feel like you are doing them a favour by spending your money with them, then this is the place for you. To be honest, the young girls on the register were nice, the older ladies who “greet you” and then make the coffee (blonde lady) feel the world owes them something. I like the way the proactively disciplined my 3 year old for not sitting down. Wow. Don’t go here… shame - such a nice location.

One star is for location. Staff are rude and unhelpful. Food is average. Have tried a couple of times but not worth the attitude from the staff. Edited to add as requested. I've had the salmon salad and the lamb plate on previous occasions. Asked if we could have a table out the sun, said we would be about 15 minutes max as needed to be quick for babies nap, about 10 empty tables and got the distinct impression it was just too hard and the manager couldn't be bothered. Got told tables were reserved for the afternoon. We were there at 11. Even if you couldn't accommodate us the attitude was rude. We went upstairs to blackfish who couldn't have been more helpful and the food is typically better. Staff there seemed to care about your custom.

Perched on the edge of the marina this little cafe is a pleasant spot for breakfast. Friendly service, nice coffee and a pleasant view of the Como bridge and the marina tucked in the corner. Have visited a couple times, the food is average, counter service has been mixed with an almost unwelcome feel. Attempts to up-sell your order with bottled water feels greedy. Won't be coming back anytime soon. The Aussie flags draped all over are a little excessive though. #thisisdharawalcountry

Very disappointed with the customer service and very rude manager. I will not be recommending this cafe. Explain how I was rude to your staff members? I treat everyone with the respect and I don’t believe as a customer I need to be treated like this. You have lost my business. You should be ashamed to call yourself an owner. My mum was not intimidating, I was right behind her and she never attacked anyone, she asked if we can have an extra chair around a table of four, we then asked your staff and they are scared of you. Don’t you dare say that we attacked your staff. This is pointless and we won’t be recommending your cafe to friends. Best of luck to you

We tried to get a table for 3 for breakfast with 2 dogs. The young girl looked nervous to ask her manager about the two dogs. They placed us on a table for 4 outside at the end which was great but I then said two people would be joining us for coffee. She again looked nervous and said she had to ask the manager. I said we could just bring one extra chair over. She again said she had to check. She then returned and said no we could not have an extra chair (even though there were many spare chairs outside). I spoke with the manager who was immediately aggressive. I said I just wanted to add a chair when our friends arrived. She said she had a capacity outside and would not move a chair even though about 15 chairs free at other tables. She told me to leave as she could not move a chair. I was horrified that she was happy to lose our business, not to move a chair!! Very disappointing and Manager was not only extremely rude but clearly the young staff are scared of her!! Why I ask!!! - Deb The response below is a cover up for what actually happened but whatever!! I was not rude or intimidating. And I assure you there was no abuse. The young staff were lovely … the ‘barista’ was not!
