El Bajio

Visited on memorial day. Place only had a few tables seated. But floor was filthy with food. Booths were dirty windows were all finger printed with greasy marks. And dead flies everywhere. Queso was basically milk and jalapeños, just runny mess. Chips were not so good. Salsa wasn't too bad. But it was warm. Should be refrigerator cold. I don't recommend.

If I dined here more than once I am sure it would get five stars. The steak tacos were really good on the verge of great. Nice presentation with a large grilled jalapeno and baby onion with sliced radishes. The pico de Gallo and salsa Verde and fresh tortilla chips were great. I ordered a Modelo draft and was pleased with extra large iced mug. Staff was very friendly. Thanks for a great time.

My 2nd time visiting (8/5/20). My 1st visit was roughly a year from the date. We were seated within a minute of arriving to a place that was 1/3 full. It took about 12 minutes for the food to arrive after we ordered. The food was excellent. Just two concerns. First, for the dishes that included rice and beans only 3 corn shelled soft shells were given. Now, I can understand this if these are found to commonly be thrown away. I will say though, most authentic Mexican restaurants will give 4 to 6 soft shells, because it is the standard, which even google agrees to. Second, was the flies. There were too many flies. I haven't been a Cedar Rapids resident for over 30 years, but maybe flies are quite the nuisance during the month of August. The establishment was clean (including the bathroom), so it might be a time of year thing. I'll come back, no doubt.

I love this restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing and authentic. They had a huge selection to choose from and it was worth every penny. You get the bang for you buck because the portions are huge and the quality was amazing. The staff was very attentive, we didn't have to wait for refills or anything. If you're ever out there this would definitely be the place to go
