I tried the green coloured fried veg dumplings and the steamed dumplings. Taste is very good and very reasonably priced. the fried dumpling is 15 for $9 and the steamed was not worth paying $5 for just 4 since taste was ok compared to the 15 dumplings for $9.They have chilli oil and soy sauce in the table so we can mix it and use it as a sauce to dip the dumpling.

Went for dinner last night with my partner and food’s not too bad at all. BUT, 2 star rating reflects the service we got last night from the ladies.
We had so many leftovers and my partner and I agreed to take them home. As I went to the toilet and my partner got caught up chatting with guys from another table, without asking any of us, one of the ladies just CLEARED OUR TABLE, without even checking on us if we’re done. When I got back, my partner just told me what happened and told the lady that she should’ve asked us if we’re done. She giggled when she realised her mistake then weirdly said thank you (?). I understand they probably don’t speak good English but when my partner said the same thing at the counter while he was paying, the girls there can’t seem to understand what my partner meant and they just kept on saying the word “complaint.”
It’s a basic courtesy to ask your dining customers if they’re done, not just clear customer’s tables just because you guys are rushing to go home.

Went to this great little place for dinner on Mothers Day ( 2022). Greeted with a smile immediately upon entry. The place was busy with many local dinners. Service was excellent & quick. The food was fantastic . The prices were very reasonable that made it economical for a family ( there were 6 of us) to enjoy a night dining out! Highly recommended.

If you're after dumplings, noodles or rice, this place will just tick that box. Food won't blow your mind but just satisfy that craving. Have been a few times ans both times walked out with a 'meh' feeling...both times with different company. The dumplings are ok and small. Beef dishes are chewy and beefy (like old beef). Probably better placed in the area to have dumplings if you're after quality and taste.

We got the pork and chive dumplings for takeaway during the covid19 isolation phase and these were the best thing i had eaten for a month. Incredibly good value even compared to other cheap dumpling shops. Very generous with filling. More than the usual amount of chives which was nice, and their chilli oil was great!

One word: DISGUSTING! I ordered teriyaki chicken with rice. The chicken was slimy and boiled. I couldn't cut through it with a spoon. I complained and staff just said,"oh well, next time you can order another dish." There will not be a next time. I left the food, not risking food poisoning. Terrible service. Do not go here, waste of time and money!

After walking out from another dumpling restaurant for bad service just up the road, we were very happy with our decision to come here. Speedy service with a smile :-) The food was great, we ordered stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli, fried rice with Chinese sausage, pork and Chinese cabbage steamed dumplings and chicken and chive pan fried dumplings. We couldn’t fault any of food. Price was also reasonable. Will go here again for a quick feed. Ambiance was nice with the lighting.

As a shareholder of Aunty's Dumplings Pty Ltd, The Dear Luncher will sometimes attend similar places on Koornang Road to inspect how other eateries are tracking.<br/><br/>The dumplings here are very good, as are other assorted entree dishes like the san choi bao. As others have mentioned though, voyaging beyond these humble staples does introduce a level of risk. Quite simply, the other dishes leave a lot to be desired.<br/><br/>Let's stick to the positives though. The pan fried beef dumplings at Dumpling Workshop are simply excellent. This is a real strength for this establishment.<br/><br/>Dumplings good, the rest ... Avoid.

Even though we live locally we hadn't seen Dumpling Workshop at 64 Koornang Rd, Carnegie before and we went there tonight on a last minute whim to mainly try their dumplings. We got there late at 9.30 but they didn't close until 10pm. We were shown to our table straight away and given 2 menus (even though there was 3 of us) After only a few minutes the waitress wants to take our order because she says the kitchen is closing. So we start to order and then she says we can't order anything deep fried which ruled out a fair few things we wanted so that wasn't such a great start. If you say the kitchen is open then it should all be open. We ordered the Peking duck which came pre-made - a bit disappointing as it's fun to prepare your own but having said that - they were delicious and most enjoyable. Next, we had the chicken and corn soup. To our surprise, the $8 dish came in a massive bowl and easily served the 3 of us! Good value and tasty too. Next, we had the beef, carrot and onion dumplings. They were nice, especially when had with the chilli oil that was on the table (also available to buy as a take-home tub) but a little on the dry side. They were nice but we've had better. Next to come out was the stock standard Chicken with vegetables and cashew nuts. A pleasant dish - lots of flavoursome sauce. Went well with the delicious fried rice. We also tried the Stir Fried beef on a Sizzling plate which was also very enjoyable and a generous serve. Lastly, we had the Sliced Beef in Szechuan chilli broth which was really delicious and again a massive serving. Overall the food was really great and we thoroughly enjoyed everything and that is reflected in my score. Unfortunately, the service was not up to the same level. 3 or 4 waitresses standing nearly on top of us watching us and waiting for us to leave. Looking at their watches and rolling their eyes at each other. It was so disgustingly rude, intimidating and made us feel so incredibly uncomfortable that the taste of the food was totally wiped out with this awful experience. We ended up taking some of the food home just so we could get the hell out of there - indigestion and all. If you go to Dumpling Workshop get there early or take it home.

Cheap and yum dumplings if you’re in the area. Dumpling Workshop offer a good selection of dumplings and main meals. Dishes were delicious. Would highly recommend the beef with chinese broccoli in oyster sauce-the most tender and delicious dish I have had in a while. Yum!!

This cheap, local, south-eastern suburb dumplings eatery is situated on a street filled with Asian food in Carnegie. The service is average and the food is hit-and-miss: enjoyed the chicken & pork dumplings, although the seafood ones were too dry; the sweet-and-sour pork is decent, while the shredded pork in ginger sauce is too strongly flavoured. Not a bad place, but nothing to rave home about.

We were a group of 8 who had made a 6pm reservation and about 1 hour in still eating and they wanted to take a table away which we said no. We won’t be too long. After we finished the last dumpling they started to clear the table and bought the bill. We were basically thrown out to make way for more people. I’ve never been treated like that at a restaurant. We have been there 6 or more times. If you want to enjoy your meal I’d give this place a miss. They just want to churn you and so rude ! Shame on you for tearing customers that way

Besides the rudest manager I've ever seen (Toni), please don't think the food here is good. Manager told me she didn't care about my complaint. On either side of this "establishment" are 2 wonderful dumpling houses. Go to these other places and you will have a wonderful evening. And if you expect sizzling beef to actually sizzle then you are dreaming. It came warm on a bed of been shoots and unless I'm deaf, no sizzle. In other words it wasn't cooked on the hot plate. We have heard about the poor food here from many friends but wanted to prove them wrong. Boy weren't WE wrong.

Overall dining experience: Worst service ever.. first they refused to give three baby seats. The restaurant has only three.... FOR THE WHOLE RESTAURANT! They gave us two and said they had to provide for other tables. Fair enough but it meant one of the parents in our table had to eat with a wriggly baby. I probably wouldn't go any further than this and bother posting a review but aside from the unwelcome attitude, we were literally being forced to get out as soon as we were half way through our meal. All I could assume is that due to the fact that we had children. They placed the bill bang in the middle of the table.. they might as well say "get the hell out.." if you get my gist.. <br/><br/>SO FAIR WARNING TO ANYONE WHO WISHES TO HAVE A NICE FAMILY GATHERING (OR EVEN JUST A NICE PLEASANT SERVICE) OVER DINNER OR LUNCH... We ordered chicken+chives dumplings & vegetarian dumplings with cabbage vermicelli bean sprout .. it was simply delicious . We have been here several times till date and have never been disappointed. Service is lovely, staff attentive and the place is neat. They don't hover around you and you may take your time to enjoy the meal. <br/>This is our go to place when we crave dumplings 😋😋 my husband and I would love to try other items on their menu but we gorge on dumplings alone!!

Not a smile from the waitress just throws over the menus and goes off and we got their attention after a number of attempts. Then it's like you have spoiled their day. The only thing was that they forgot about some of our meal and gave it to another table, so we had to wait a while for them to cook the dumplings again. Just your standard casual dumpling restaurant. Good for a cheap meal with friends. We ordered a large selection of dishes including the spring onion pancake, the spring rolls, chicken wings, Chinese broccoli, pork and chive dumplings, salt and pepper calamari, vegetarian dumplings, fried rice and beef dumplings. I particularly enjoyed the salt and pepper calamari and the pork and chive dumplings. I did have one major issue with the restaurant though. The night we dined their only toilet was out of service. This really isn't ideal especially when none of the surrounding restaurants were willing to allow customers to use their facilities.

We chose this place out of many dumpling places in Carnegie because of its cleanliness and modern decor. The place was very busy on a Thursday night but we got a table within 5 mins. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered panfried pork and chives dumplings and char kway teow noodles. The dumplings we're only $10 for 15 pieces and came out hot, golden and crispy. They did not disappoint, they were mouthfuls of juicy delicious pork and chives. The noodles on the other hand weren't very good, it wasn't authentic char kway teow instead of dark soy sauce it was flavoured with Indian spices ie curry powder which did not taste good at all. Overall I would definitely be back but just for the dumplings, i might try their chive pancakes next time too they looked delicious over at other tables.

The spring onion pancakes were cooked to perfection and so nice and soft and a beautiful light snack. The peeking duck was not as good as I was hoping but was still nice. It's the little things here that make the difference (that others on the street are missing) soy, vinegar and chili labeled and readily available on every table, a good wine list, always chilled water on the table as soon as you sit down. <br/>We love the San Choy Bow, the steamed chicken and chives dumplings and the pan fried pork dumplings. All divine and tops out at $30. As an ordinary foodie, I'd like to tell you that Carnegie is just getting better and better. I love coming to this suburb for good food..pretty much every week. Dumpling Workshop is among the best on Koornang Rd in my humble opinion. Today we pay a visit here once again and the experience is awesome. It looks like we order too much but we still manage to finish them all because they are so good. We have "Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce", "Hot and sour soup", "Spicy chicken on rice", and "Pan fried pork dumplings". I still have no idea how we are able to finish them all 😬. Service today is all right. I guess it depends who is on the floor. One waitress is super friendly but the other is opposite. The price is reasonable. Everything we have is still under $40...pretty cool, isn't it? Overall, I love this place and highly recommend to you guys. Try it yourself and let me know what you think.

I have been wanting to try this place out as i have seen a foodie on insta raves about this shop so much. The expectation was so high. And boom, the disappointment was so real. Order 3 dishes with the total of about $29, so cheap but plus bad customer service, i would rather pay abit more for some good dumplings in the city. The xiao long bao' skin was thick and there was no juice. The chicken and prawn dumpling was a bit dry. The Northern style PRAWN dumpling with CHIVES as the main ingredient, the only good thing is the vermicelli in this gave it a nice texture. I would not recommended this to anyone.

If you are called Dumpling Workshop then you want to ensure your Dumplings are top notch especially if you are on the Koornang Rd strip as there are too many good choices! I have been here twice and been completely satisfied with the meal and service. Highly recommended. Child friendly! 👌😊

Editing my review after 7 months, visit the shop on a Thursday night during non peak hours. <br/>This time I ordered the vegetarian steam dumplings to eat in, with pork and bokchoi dumplings.<br/>When the vegetarian dumplings came in, I took a bite it was pretty delicious. But having to have second and third ones it starts to get too salty... love the bean spouts and mushrooms giving texture but definitely they need to reduce some salt ( I haven't really dip in my dumplings with soy). Pork was okay but don't think there's much bokchoi in it made the dumpling a little too solid and lack of something. <br/>We are hungry so we scoffed it down regardless. <br/>They definitely have a better dining environment comparing to the ones next door, but I can't really judge which ones better, with more dumpling shops popping up around Carnegie they really need to start lifting up their game.<br/>

I had a quick, light & inexpensive lunch today at the new Dumplings Workshop in Carnegie and I ordered pork and prawn dumplings with chives 12 for $9, they were quite nice as well as being sufficiently filling and great value at the price. My dumplings were served within 10 minutes of ordering with the restaurant being fairly quiet. Service provision was good. The background music was modern vocal but was sufficiently quiet to be heard over.<br/><br/>Update: Sep 22, 2016<br/><br/>Revisited Dumpling Workshop for an early lunch today after 14 months and I've discovered that these dumplings named shops sell a variety of other good cheap food as well so I decided to try their Lemon Chicken (in batter) for $14 and it was perfect and well presented. Love this place! This is our regular local Dumplings fix place & they have never let us down.Everything is good, love the dumplings, spring onion pancake, Chinese broccoli - all delicious!!Highly recommend! Myself and my housemate go here regularly at least once a week, the staff know us by name now! haha. Always friendly & great service. Also love that they are licenced, or you're welcome to bring your own. Highly recommend booking as it is always busy for dinner :)

One of our favourite places to go if we feel like Asian. The Peking Duck rolls are fantastic. The dumplings are great. The Vegetarian options are great. Really well priced. Really great food. We highly recommend and we have enjoyed any dish we have ordered here.

I was looking for a decent dumpling place in my area and this place exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend the pork and chinese cabbage xiao long baos. Service was decent and I will be back to try the other items on the menu.

Dropped in here for a quick takeaway for a late lunch on a Saturday. Immediately impressed by the contemporary decor. Staff were friendly and efficient, from order to walking out the door with 6 freshly cooked pork Long Bao, no more than 10 minutes. Food was delicious, the chilli oil for dipping was excellent. Will definitely try again for a sit down meal.

Ordered Spring onion pancake, chives pancake, nasi goreng and pan fried chicken and chive dumplings. Apart from the Nasi Goreng everything was good. Nasi goreng had too much pineapple in it which ruined the dish. Everything else was good. Gave an extra 0.5 because of their attentive and efficient customer service.

Definitely recommend coming here for steamed dumplings! Might even say the best dumplings on Koornang rd... Service is decent and food comes out pretty fast. The seaweed salad is nice too!

Staff were really accommodating and friendly. We were squeezed into a tiny spot next to the bar and struggled to hear ourselves talk over the noisy people who were almost sitting on top of us. The bar seemed well-stocked and the service was fairly quick, even though the place was almost full.<br/><br/>The steamed dumplings were really nice and tasty with a lot of filling. The fried dumplings, although tasty, were quite greasy and we struggled to eat them without making a mess. The green beans with chicken mince and chilli were too salty for our taste. We left half of the chicken noodles as they were served last and really didn't taste of much in comparison to the other dishes.<br/><br/>Overall, although decent value for money and decent portion sizes, I'd still rather go to Auntie's Dumpling House as it seems more authentic and the dumplings are smaller there, so easier to eat.

A more modern dumpling place than the typical dodgy ones where you question their cleanliness, hygiene. Menu lays out very clearly their different types of dumplings, steamed, fried, soup, xiao long bao, etc. All are good. We ordered their combination meat fried noodles today. Noodle was cooked just right, sauce was tasty. Their onion pancake was hearty & crispy, but it was quite bland. Service is always fast here, so it's THE place I'll go when I'm short for time!

This is my regular place for dumplings in carnegie. The dumplings are great with lots of options to choose from. We have been trying different types of dumplings every time we came here. The design and decoI are also very lovely and clever. The place provides a great atmosphere with friendly staff . I Can't thinking of any bad thing about it apart from the fact that it can get very crowded but not a big problem for me.

Not a bad dumpling place, but one problem: Auntie's Dumplings just down the road is much better.<br/><br/>Come here if Auntie's is crowded, if not, take your money to Auntie's instead. Not saying the dumplings here aren't delicious, they just aren't as good, IMO.

Ahhhhmazing dumplings!!!! Was very popular especially on a Saturday night so we had to wait outside for a table as we didn't make a reservation. By the looks of it people who had made reservations also had to wait a bit.<br/>Really good value for money though and will definitely be coming again.

Oh yea!!!!!! This place is my favourite little asian restaurant. Just love the food here, plus the quick service. My favourites are the homemade veggies dumplings, asian green veggie's, dumpling soup and the beef noodles. Though the other dishes are also yummy......

We ordered the pan fried pork dumplings (15pcs), spicy and sour soup and the special fried rice, the dumplings were juicy and very delicious :) fried rice was awesome as well just would be better if it was less oily, but definitely coming back!

Another bloody dumpling place.... but this one is tastey and pretty much always busy so that has to count for something :) typically I'm a creature of habit so my favorite dishes are the vegetarian fried noodles and green beans minus the pork....Avoid the chillies on the plate for risk of death!! Mind you feel free to pack on the chilli they have on the table, it's roasted and the best I've had. The vegetarian dumplings are average....to be honest most of the dumolings here are, but, if your not too fussy you'll have a tasty and fulfilling meal.<br/>3/5

My brother and I love the dumplings @ DW and we travel 40km for the pleasure. Great variety [choice+] and of the many times we have dined i have NEVER found fried versions 'oily'. ps: vegetarian are delightful as well and should NEVER be fried.

this place is excellent for dumplings, a new (and great) addition to the koornang rd strip. HOWEVER, the $25 eftpos minimum is ridiculous and completely unreasonable, especially in 2016. 2 meals came to $20 and they still would not accept card. not happy about this, but will have to suck it up as the dumplings are tasty.

Well, as it's name suggests, it's a workshop, for dumplings. So what could we do but have the dumplings? Lots of dumplings. Definitely best to go in a group so that you can get more variety. I had a group of seven but unfortunately no photos - we ate them too fast. The xiao long bao come in a variety of flavours and I don't know about other people, but when I have pork and chive dumplings, I usually can't taste the chive, not even as an after taste - not so with these ones. They are exactly what they are flavoured to be. And they were good and juicy. Even the vegetarian dumplings were great! We had them pan fried and they weren't oily at all. <br/><br/>For the xiao long bao you get 6 per serve, and for the other dumplings you get between 9 to 15, so be hungry, or willing to share, though they will give you a little take away plate. Some of the other dishes I saw looked great too and the Peking duck was good. There was plenty of duck in it, as opposed to sometimes then you wonder where duck went but at the same time, you still had the crispiness from the vegetables. <br/><br/>So I highly recommend this place for a cheap eat, with reasonable service, though it can get very noisy in the restaurant, so not really for intimate dinners.

I got takeaway dumplings from here tonight, as I'm trying to find an awesome local dumpling place (my favorite is in hawthorn) but I was disappointed. I had to pay cash as they have a $25 eftpos limit, which is simply unreasonable in this day and age. I got the vegetarian pan fried dumplings as well as the chicken and chive ones. They were way too oily (they should have just called them 'deep fried') and so any taste that they did have seemed over powered. The waitress serving me barely looked at me as I ordered, which also just annoyed me.

Decent food and reasonably priced. nicely designed interiors. had a bad experience with customer service though. there were three of us (me, wife and 3 year old daughter) but we agreed to sit down in a 2 person table and asked to be transferred when a table opened up.<br/><br/>three tables opened up and they wouldn't transfer us to any of them with the excuse being either they were deserved or for people waiting for a long time. i challenged them about it because they gave a table to a family who just walked in. they changed their tune and said they cannot transfer us because they already served us food (which we haven't even touched!)<br/><br/>we just took our food home and left. not coming back to this one.

Tonight we actually wanted to dine in at another restaurant, but it was closed, so we thought we would try Dumpling Workshop since it is fairly new in our neighbourhood. And I am very glad that we did. Honestly we didn't have much expectation for it and were thinking it might just be another dumpling shop besides so many others on Koornang Road. <br/>Our first impression, although the shop is not very big, they manage to arrange the tables and seatings thoughtfully without making it so cramped. Plates and cutleries are also set up nicely on the tables. The lighting is just enough, not too dark, not too bright. <br/>We asked the waitress for recommendation, and she was very helpful. Finally we decided to go for a steamed pork shao long bao, a steam chicken & chive dumplings, a pan fried chive pancake & salty duck (which is a cold dish). They all were very nice, but the steamed shao long bao & dumplings were the stars. The dumplings are nicely folded and the fillings are really juice & flavourful. I've read a few comments saying the food here has a lot of msg & sugar, but coming from an Asian background (eating a lot food with msg back in my hometown), I honestly didn't feel like that, at least not tonight when we dined in. The filling of the chive pancakes is also very nice, I only wished the skin could have be a bit thinner and crunchier. The staffs were very attentive during service. <br/>Although the dumplings here are not the best ones that we've had in Melbourne, but we can see this shop is serious about what they put on plates and I think that should be appreciated. Compared with some other shops next door, I think Dumpling Workshop does a better job, especially in term of service, and because I want to support local business, I'm giving them a 4/5. I think they deserve to get more attention :). Oh, and price is very reasonable.

This place is the cleanest dumpling place I have been to in Melbourne. The service was great, the vegetarian dumplings were delicious and the price was equal to what you would pay at any other cheap dumpling place. Keep up the good work guys! I will be back.

The chive and pork xiao long bao we ordered was salty and lacked soup inside. Chives were a bit overpowering. They should have standalone pork XLB as an option like most places. Spring onion pancake was crispy and nice.

Dined here as a group of 10 on Sunday night. Unfortunately we only tried two pan fried dumplings, which I found nice but not crispy enough. We had almost a dozen other mainly stir-fry dishes including prawn, beef, pork, chicken, vegetables, barramundi, spring onion pancakes etc. I found the overall taste too artificial, with an overzealous usage of MSG, salt and sugar in the sauces and seasonings. Service was a little confused with incorrect dishes arriving.

This is a lovely place for a good lunch or small dinner. This place has the loveliest Peking duck and a fried rice that is to die for. We ordered a whole lot of dumplings and they didn't disappoint in quantity. This place has the cutest lamps and u can see they have tried to go with the workshop theme. Thursday evening and the place is full. People coming and going. Good service a little on the noisy side but this is expected due to the size of the place and the table set out. The food is as good as their other restaurant in East Malvern. Dumplings dumplings they seem to be extremely trendy for foodies. <br/>

EDIT:13/06/2016.I went to a dumpling workshop last week. I reduced the rating to 2.5 from 4.5 . Due to no consistency , no taste , last of interest on cooking , no value for money. we order fried rice and dumplings. dumplings were ok . and fried rice , not even rice was cooked ,and rice was warm . I don't understand .rice was still in chunks . never return to this. this is one of my favorites . <br/><br/>Hello, I am very frequent to Chinese restaurants . <br/>Here I find some good fried rice and dumpling .<br/>AS An INDIAN I LIKE SPICY FOOD . they make very good spicy and delicious fried rice.

I've been eating at the Malvern East restaurant for years. The continuum of best dumplings ever to the new site is impressive. Now we have great food plus a nice aesthetic. Staff were very attentive, not quite the experience of the Malvern team, but they'll get there I'm sure. With massive competition my choice for dumplings down this strip.
