I've been to this location and the one in Chinook Mall equal number of times. They have a great happy hour and I am a fan of their Main burger. I describe it to friends as an upscale McDonalds type burger. Some of my friends have had their lettuce wraps and enjoyed them and I've also tried their fried cauliflower dish and pretzel appetizer...both were more than decent.

Average at best. Super loud but the service was fast and effective. The steak salad was mediocre with a small piece of steak and mostly romaine ribs. The tiny bits of blue cheese were the only nod to the blue cheese dressing and the salad was bland. Might have been 3 pieces of tomato. I think it was $22. Not doing that again.

Stopped in for lunch on Monday with some co-workers and ordered their Beef Dip with sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, swiss cheese & horseradish mayo and 2 sides for $17.25. While the beef dip and fries (which comes with gravy or dill dip) were good, the ginger cilantro slaw was flavorless - completely absent of any flavor or even any sauce.<br/><br/>

$5 breakfast on weekends - best bargain breakfast in town! The $5 menu includes about seven options including a standard two egg with toast, hashbrowns bacon and sausage. Other items include a breakfast burrito and, skillet and French toast. Quality was great and portion size was on the higher end.

Definitely a great spot in the city! Kind of a little ways away from the hustle and bustle of Stephen Ave. the girls and I stopped here for supper on the night of my friends bachelorette. It was the perfect place for appies and drinks to get the night started. I opted for the salt and pepper chicken wings, which were really amazing and exactly what I wanted! Would definitely recommend it as a great stop in on a night out.

I've walked by State and Main numerous times and today decided to try it. The atmosphere was nice and the service was wonderful too, but that may have been because we were the only two there. The food was mediocre. The Alberta Bison Burger was good but the sides that came along with it (jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes and ginger coleslaw) were not flavourful at all. In fact the coleslaw just tasted like store bought coleslaw with a little bit of salad dressing on it. The Cobb Salad was decent but the chicken that came in it was extremely dry. I will probably not be returning.

Service was great during our visit and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. Food was so-so. Had the French Dip with ginger cilantro slaw and the mixed greens and found both salads lacked flavor. The jus for the french dip was very salty, although the flavor was good. Friend had a chicken burger with fries and salad, and was average as well. One of my favorite go to places is Original Joe's (same ownership and similar menu) so was sad that it wasn't as good. Would visit the Chinook location or OJ'S instead.

An equally great place for a date, a birthday party, a hockey game with friends, or drinks with co-workers.I'm a regular, and this place never disappoints. I come here for my favourite old fashioned cocktail. The atmosphere is great; it gets busy around 5 o'clock, but then it slows down a bit. I've never seen this place too packed. Food is great – I love their bacon blue cheese salad!<br/>Pretty much, every time my husband and I feel like going for a couple of drinks, but don't feel like a fancy restaurant, we decide to come to State & Main (Stephen Ave or Chinook).

Inconsistent food. Bison burgers great, fries cold, chicken wrap flavourful, beef dip cold, with gristle.  Service was efficient and friendly.  When cold fries were mentioned, they were replaced.  No complaints about the cornbread sides.  These was an excellent array so side choices.<br/><br/>One very positive suspect, they provide excellent NI on their website!

Good food, but consistently TERRIBLE service. Today was my 3rd time here at State & Main, and every time we have had the displeasure of encountering really bad service. We came in for lunch with a group of 7 people and our waitress came to our table immediately to tell us the drink specials. We all decided to have water instead but then I saw her roll her eyes and walked away without another word. I never expected to receive attitude for ordering water instead of an alcoholic drink. She came back shortly with our waters (which, I must emphasize, was never refilled during the whole duration of the meal) and then asked us if we wanted to order appetizers. A few from our group said "there's no need, we'll just order our mains" but then she looked at the rest of us and pretty much scolded back "So, are YOU ordering appetizers?" We were quite shocked at this point, and said "no, but we are ready to order our lunches" but she didn't even allow us to finish our sentence and she stormed off again. Now that is just plain rude to be walking away from someone speaking directly to her. <br/><br/>If it wasn't for the great food (I ordered the Salmon Club and it was one of the best salmon burgers in town), I would not have left any tip at all. The waitress made everyone feel very uncomfortable, even when we were paying the bill she did not speak nor smile at anyone. Or ask if we enjoyed our food even once. She just ripped the receipt off the machine, slapped it on the table, and walked away. <br/><br/>I hate how I am always leaving angry because of the terrible service we consistently receive here. Please do something about your wait staff and properly train them on BASIC customer service. Saying "hi", "how are you", and "thank you" can go a very long way.

It was actually my first time at State and Main and I heard so many good things about it so I decided to try it out. The food was really good, I had the milk and cookies and they were wonderful, but my service experience was awful. The server embarrassed me and my dinner date in the middle of the restaurant, and didn't even apologize when she was wrong, very obnoxious and very rude. When it was time to pay the bill our server was no where to be found, we waited 15 minutes until she brought our bill and another 10 until she brought the machine. Over all State and Main is a good place, I just wished my first time experience was better.

Great lunch spot. I tried State & Main for the first time with my lunch buddy on a Friday at noon. We didn't have a reservation and the place was full. We waited about 5 minutes and then we were seated on the patio.<br/><br/>Fridays the drink specials are 5$ vodka and 7$ "maintinis". We dove into beers and martinis and everything was delicious.<br/><br/>My chicken wrap and sides were spot on, despite being a simple dish. Those were the best mashed potatoes that didn't come out of my kitchen. My companion had the chicken cheese steak and said it was amazing. We had warm sticky buns for dessert with cocktails on the side and we were in heaven! <br/><br/>They allow minors so I will definitely be back with my family! Great local spot and I can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
