March 29th 2018 was my last day of work. After work, my boyfriend drove me to State & Main Kitchen & Bar to have a dinner. We have been State & Main in the City of Lethbridge before. This was our first time having dinner at this Calgary location. We had a pleasant dining experience at this restaurant.<br/><br/>Environment<br/><br/>We arrived the restaurant around 5 pm. It was not busy. We could get a table very easier. After we sat down, the server brought the menu to us. Inside the restaurant, all the setting and decorations were the same as other State & Main location. It was very nice and clean.<br/><br/>Serve<br/><br/>Our table server was very nice and friendly. She gave us great suggestions for the drink. Very helpful.<br/><br/>Food & Prices<br/><br/>We have ordered $17.00 PACIFIC RIM NOODLE BOWL and STEAK SANDWICH $21.50. Our food came out the kitchen was fast. They were all well cooked and fresh. Inside my noodle bowl included chicken, shrimp, steamed vegetables & rice noodles, simmered in a spicy flavorful broth. chili oil & fresh lime on the side. It was very health noodle bowl. I loved the soup flavor so much. The steak sandwich was enjoyed by my boyfriend’s dining companions. It was six-ounce steak, seasoned & cooked your way; served open faced on garlic toasted french bread. All the dish seemed like a great value for us. We enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and the service so much. Highly recommend people go State & Main.

Had a Caesar was pretty standard. The Pickled Bean looked a little bit old and on the seated side as opposed to a normal pickled Bean which is supposed to be bright green.<br/><br/>The mash potatoes we're pretty good but you can't really messed that up unless they are boxed.<br/><br/>The reuben sandwich was good little bit on the salty side but I think it's supposed to be salty.<br/><br/>Greek salad with feta was also standard.<br/><br/>French fries were standard and rushed not to a Golden Crisp and not soggy. <br/><br/>If you're hungry and looking for a quick drink then this place would be okay but nothing super unique and experience was standard.<br/><br/>

Enjoyable afternoon at state and main. Martinis, wine and Caesars for the table followed by cob salads, calamari, French toast, and hummus. Flavors and presentation are average. Caesar is served with peppers, beans, cheese, and. hot peppers and are on special on Sunday's. Table is not enjoying deep fried jalapeños served mused in with the calamari. Service is friendly and prompt at this chain restaurant.

State and Main is a franchise restaurant with locations across Alberta that offers traditional, hearty kitchen fare. I found that my experiences at different locations have been a bit mixed. There have been times where my food has been served cold, or orders had been forgotten completely, but there have also been times where I have been pleasantly surprised by the speed and friendliness of the service, so it can be a bit of a hit or miss situation. The food overall is good, depending on what you're in the mood for. A personal favourite is the jalapeño mac and cheese! Definitely an option for bigger groups to check out, as there is a lot of seating available, just a luck of the draw for the rest of the experience.

I really like the food here and the service is always great. It's a great place to relax and dine with friends. If you decide to stop by here I recommend trying the momma's meatballs, hummus & naan, and butter chicken poutine. Everything here is relatively large so there's definitely enough to share. The only thing I don't love is how incredibly dark it is in here, but it doesn't take away from the food experience.

Super yummy!. Went here on a quiet Thurs afternoon as a group of 8. Most of us ordered burgers and sweet potato fries (Which are amaazing). I really enjoyed my grilled cheeseburger, it was huge! I also enjoyed the Wraspberry ale as it was light and really complimented my burger. Everyone was very satisfied with their order and the service. I'd definitely come back!

I don’t normally order seafood from a place I’m first trying out but I really wanted to try their Applewood Salmon Club and I’m actually really glad I did. The burger was super tasty and it was amazing!...We enjoyed our meal so much, we ended up splitting a half order of Dirt Pie and to be honest, it was the perfect amount! ...Overall, we really enjoyed this place and I’m sure I will be back. We enjoyed our time here. Food, service, atmosphere, location… all perfect!

A Pleasant Dining Experience. This was a first time at this restaurant for me. I had the Thai red curry chicken bowl, and it zapped my taste buds with a powerful flavor. The steak and fish taco's were enjoyed by my dining companions. All the food was fresh, well presented and seemed like a good value. I enjoyed the atmosphere, food and the service. Too soon to make a blanket statement, but so far so good.

Our go-to.... This is our go-to spot. Really great menu, though almost exactly like Original Joe's. You MUST have the bacon tomato soup. It is delicious. It is pretty rich, and the full size of it is too much for one person to have as an appetizer. You can get a cup of it as a side to your main course, but then you don't get the cheese crostinis, which are amazing. Get the soup as a starter to share. For the main course, we get the pulled pork which is your average pulled pork, but still really great. If you get fries, the dill dip (same as OJs) is amazing. It is just so so good. I always get an extra and put it on the pulled pork sandwich. I've also had the blackened chicken burger which is pretty good as well. Never tried dessert there. We have never had something that was bad. Admittedly, it is pretty standard food (nothing to blow you out of the water - except the soup) but it is always consistent and a great meal.

Came here twice once because Joeys was full the second time because my wife enjoyed the brucheta. WILL NEVER RETURN!!!!!!! BLAND TASTELESS FOOD horrid service airhead waitresses. They have a nice looking restaurant but that's it. You can dress a pig up but it's still a pig! First off its a restaurant not a damn dance hall. TURN DOWN YOUR MUSIC !. Second when I order something and you write it down bring it to me . Ordered two starters brucheta and Bang Bang Shrimp. Watched the girl write it down and never got it . Asked about it she was like that's all u ordered she offered to get it for me I declined . Then my wife orders the steak sandwich with she said was good except her warm potato salad I ordered the Fettuccine and Meatballs considering the first time I had the Chorizo Lasagna and was not impressed with the amount of meat in my pasta with tomatoes. Anyway Fettuccine and Meatballs were disgusting I couldn't eat it how can a meal have too much of one spice and still be bland the noodles were watery and bland as well. I told the manager which he was super nice and offered me a menu I originally declined more food as my appetite was gone but got talked into fish and chips they were OK . Now the manager removed our starter for the trouble but as far as I was concerned not enough done for all the trouble at least fish and chips should have been free Or half off. As I said will never go back I recommend u don't go either . Too much wrong with this place!!!!!!! AVOID!!!!!

I had the French dip, and with sandwiches, burgers and mains you get to choose not one but two side dishes. This proved a difficult task. I eventually decided on the quinoa salad, that one was a shoe-in. For the second, I had the mixed greens, which I actually preferred between the two. The menu is great, they had many, many options that I would have liked to try. The service was great, easy location for after shopping. Yes, indeed, I will be back, next time I will bring hubby.

I chose to sit right at the bar counter as I was alone and the place was packed. However, the bartenders were an awesome group of guys and recommended the (amazing, as it turns out) grilled cheeseburge which was super filling. Service was super quick. My only complaint would be that the girls who work there must be super uncomfortable in those heels all day, but oh well! Awesome environment too.

The menu is huge with tons of appetizers, entrees, salads on two full sized pages. Normally this isn't the best sign because it is better to really perfect a few menu items than being mediocre on 50 menu items. Turns out our meal was pretty good and we even got a discount from my nice friend! The menu was reminiscent of box store restaurants like Original Joe's, Moxies, etc and not very earth shattering but I was happy to see a cobb salad on the menu and found a delicious appetizer. Great service but....... Went on a Saturday night with my family and the place was busy but we got one of the last tables right away which was great. The servers were friendly, prompt and helpful and are above average from what I usually find in most Calgary restaurants. Sadly, beyond the tasty calimari, the rest of dinner did not keep pace. My wife and I found the burgers bland, expensive and the choice of garlic toast for a bun made for a sloppy, soggy eating experience. The corn bread was lacking and the Cesar salad was dry a bland as well. My son's pizza was ok, for a 3 year old, but we found that the restaurant not having a kids menu a little odd. I guess families are not their target market. For the price, go to Earls or Joey Tomatoes, better quality. Moxie's has higher quality food and better prices.

Bad. Real bad.. Went here on a Saturday night for a dinner out for four ladies and after waiting 45 minutes for a table, experienced a terrible meal. My cajun chicken sandwich had nothing cajun about it, rather more like a BBQ salty chicken bland gross mess. Everyone's fries were cold and tasted like they had been sitting out for a couple hours before serving. The fish tacos were bland and cold, the ribs were cold and salty. Wrong drinks were brought to us and service was very disappointing. Some creepy manager kept giving us sexy eyes uninvited. Overall a very bad experience and none of us will ever return.

We have been to this place a couple times because the food at the atmosphere is great. However, every time we sit in the "lounge" area we get terrible service. I'm not sure why this is. We usually have the same server all the time. Tonight we decided to give the lounge another go and we got the server again. I don't want to name names but it seems like she cannot handle her job, she rarely smiles. We will likely come back but the lounge needs some work.

Horrible. My husband and I went here for dinner before going to a movie. The service was mediocre at best. The menu has many selections but nothing creative or original. I had the bison burger and it was nothing special. I had to ask for spicy mustard to add some sort of flavour to it. Seems like an expensive original joes but with poorer quality food. If you are looking for a bite to eat around chinook centre, skip this place, it's not worth it!

So yummy!! Stopped in here for fuel before Christmas shopping and loved everything about it. Great, knowledgeable servers/bartenders (I've been in the industry for 12 years so I've seen my fair share) and the food was great! I had the grilled cheeseburger (fat kid meal!!) and my boyfriend had the bison burger. I don't think we left anything on the plates!! Great spot. Great food!! We will be back!

This place is a total gem. Knowledgeable, engaging bar staff and servers. Everything I've eaten here has been delicious and there Margherita flatbread might be the best think I've ever eaten. Just try it, I dare you. My girlfriend's super-picky on both food and service and this place is certainly our favorite now.

Not all bad.. but not great. The good first - while this place is obviously associated with Original Joes (just looking at the menu will verify that), I do find it better quality than OJ's. The food was decent, but is still pub food - if you expect more than that, don't bother. The pretzel sticks are killer though, and they have a decent beer selection. Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak sandwhich was good, sides were boring though. The atmosphere is decent, and it's a fairly nice place - in those regards it was easy to spend a Saturday evening here. Saw a few other things on the menu I would like to try, when I have time.<br/><br/>Now the not so good... stopped here twice last week, both times I had issue with the service. The first night we stopped by to eat before a late movie, made me glad I bought our tickets online and selected our seats already, because the service was SO slow that we spent way longer in there than expected. Server was not rude, but wasn't friendly, only gave us time to order and never came around to check on us, good thing I only wanted one drink.<br/><br/>Because of it's location, we found ourselves back there on Saturday night for drinks with a few friends. Our server was VERY Friendly, even made conversation... except I think she forgot she was supposed to be serving us. Drinks took forever when we could flag her down to order, and when she did clear our empties, she twice took beer bottles that were still half full. She would disapear for large periods of time and all of us purchased more than one round at the bar directly. Ordered appies, they came out quickly, but not by her. We never did get the waters we asked for several times come to think of it..<br/><br/>It's close to my house, so I'm sure I will be back, but I can't say I would insist on going there next time I make plans.

Pretzels... Mmmm... We went there with 3 in our group. Food was excellent. All 3 meals tasted good, but wouldn't recommend the steak sandwich. Service was not good at all. <br/>I would hate to see if they were actually busy. <br/>Everyone should try it once,the food is worth it. If the service sucks not to go back.

Loved it. Man I thought .... Loved it. <br/><br/>Man I thought it would be another joeys/earls experience. But NOPE. Way better. They have a huge menu which is really nice, and it's all very well priced (definitely cheaper than earls and joeys). The portions were huge. Another win. But most important. The food was delicious!!!! Such good fries! (Often find places never can get fries right). The club sandwhich came with TWO sides!! Mash potatoes anddd a quinoa salad. Both so good. <br/><br/>I will definitely be going here a LOT more. Will replace joeys with stet & main for my pre-movie dinner!

Awesome!. I have been here twice and each time the food, drinks & service were awesome. I had the Beef Dip the first time & Pulled Pork Sandwich the next time. My boyfriend and friends had the Mac and Cheese with Chorizo & Fish Tacos. All the food was delish and the portion sizes are a great. I am looking forward to my next visit.

First off the phone number listed above is a fax number! Lol! Once finding the correct phone number, I found out that they don't take reservations! If you have any food allergies do not eat here as they cannot guarantee that you will not be sick... The food took a very long time and to out disappointment was cold. The server and managers were very kind and took care of our meal. Perhaps Gordon Ramsay could teach the kitchen staff a thing or two... I will never go back again....

No.. I went on Saturday afternoon for lunch and to be real, it put me off of eating out for a very long time. Why, WHY is it so hard to find a decent dining experience in this city? Why??<br/><br/>The worst service I've experienced in a restaurant in a VERY long time. I was in the industry for a long time so I tend to be more lenient because I know what's involved. What we received service-wise, or didn't receive rather, was inexcusable. I ordered a Cuban Mojito and she asked me if I wanted the "other one", I asked her what the difference was. She didn't know and made me flip through the drink menu to see the difference. Why suggest another drink if you have no idea what you're suggesting?? Took almost 15 minutes to get our drinks (one mojito, one Coke, one club soda). <br/><br/>Time to order our food, I was waffling between the Thai Salad and the Saigon Sub. I asked her what she thought and instead of "faking it" which she should have done if she wasn't sure - which it was clear she wasn't - she said "Well *I* don't eat bread so..." How condescending and insulting is that? So I ordered the sub in spite of her rude comment. We ordered pretzel sticks to start and they never came out. After 40 minutes of waiting, our mains (2 sandwiches and a salad) came out. She hadn't checked on us once during this time or to explain why on earth there was such a delay. It was inexplicable because it wasn't busy. We asked about the pretzel sticks and she said "Oh, I thought you wanted them WITH your main course" but in reality, she hadn't ordered them at all. She went to the computer which was beside our table and rang them in then. If she forgot, that's fine - just tell us that. Don't lie and then ring them in. We might have opted against having them. During our meals, she didn't come to check on us at all. Took her 20 minutes to clear our plates and at that, she left half of them on the table. We were there for far FAR too long for a Saturday lunch. If this is what people can expect for a weekday lunch when most are on a timed lunch, they're going to have problems. <br/><br/>The food was underwhelming - the salad was bland, the ginger slaw I ordered on the side was flavorless, she didn't tell us there was goat cheese on the mixed greens and that should be stated on the menu. Goat cheese isn't a neutral "take it or leave it" kind of topping. There are more people that dislike it than like it. Inform people. <br/><br/>And one quick comment about hiring people just for their looks - how does the saying go? "Skirts bring shirts?" Look around. The clientele there was primarily female, trust us when we say we're not overly impressed by tight dresses and high heels. Please hire someone who can serve you. PLEASE. Or train them to do so. I can't speak for the men but I would venture to say that even they would appreciate competent service over a pair of high heels and exposed cleavage.

Impressed. My wife and I stopped in after the the sushi place next door (Globefish) smelled a little too fishy (that's for another review). The food was fine and on par with any other similar establishment and the service was exceptional. <br/><br/>My wife had the fish tacos, which were grilled as opposed to fried (a nice change of pace) and I had the veggie burger which was surprisingly pretty decent.<br/><br/>All in all it appears to be a good place to meet up after a long shop or before/after a movie. We would definitely go there again.<br/><br/>On a scale of "80th and Ivy" to 10, 10 being exceptional, I would give this establishment a solid 7.
