The food and drinks here are always amazing. Rob and Rachel are very friendly and work very hard to give their patrons a great experience. The service we received in the past was pretty good, but the last few times we were there (late January/early Feb) it took 3 hours start to finish. (We had reservations one of those times; ate in the bar early the last time). I suggest slightly taller stools for the tables in the bar area (Rob noticed that I needed a booster seat and brought me a tall stool from the bar👍). Definitely will be back.

A very nice establishment. Very clean inside and great décor. Dined on a Friday night and the restaurant got busy and the service was kinda slow. They were down one person. Everyone enjoyed their main course. The butternut ravioli portion is small but very good. The perch fish dinner is large and so is the flat bread pizza. Both are delicious.
They have a wide variety of drinks including four beers on tap + a bunch in bottles.
At the end of our meal we were there for two hours. Hopefully future visits are quicker. The owners are great and treated us well. Cheers!

We chanced it without a reservation and had dinner at the bar. Excellent service! Comfortable bar stools!! And best of all, an amazing meal!!! Dinner included soup, salad, main entree and desert all at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this place!

The food was awesome. But the seating wasn't. The tables were WAY. too wide and the chairs way to short. I'm 5 foot and I wanted a bar stool and my husband is 6 foot and still thought he was eating at chin level. But the food was fabulous!.

Here is what we liked about the Birches: Rob and Rachel were very friendly and welcoming. The thick, varnished wood slab tables really fit the decor. We enjoyed the fresh Lake Superior Almond Crusted lake trout and Scallops. The meal came with shrimp and roasted corn chowder soup, a small salad with house Parmesan garlic dressing. A South Shore Nut Brown Ale really topped off my meal. A small dish of Gelato was also included. But, there were two downsides: 1) The $9 up-charge for a flour less cake and 2) We didn't find out about the amount of the up-charge until we received our check. The dessert was very good, but it wasn't worth that much. I would have appreciated knowing what the up-charge was up-front. I certainly would have gone with the included ice cream dessert after paying a premium for the meal.

Second time trying this establishment and both experiences were terrible. The first time we spent over 3 hours to get our meal after making reservations 2 days ahead of time. The second we had reservations again this time we get our food orders in then about 30 minutes later the manager had to explain to our group that the owners decided to leave unexpectedly and shut the kitchen down.

We have been wanting to try out Birches since the new owners took over. We had friends coming up this weekend and thought it would be the perfect time for us to make reservations and come in last night.
We arrive for our 7pm reservation and are told by a table leaving: "Good luck if you have a reservation, they stopped serving food. The owner just took off and said shut it down." We were very confused and asked the polite staff and they apologetically confirmed that they were not serving food anymore. I felt bad for them, as they obviously cared more for the people in the restaurant than the owner. If the cook or the waitstaff quits, I understand having to stop serving. But if an owner completely walks out on an entire restaurant full of people (with many more reservations coming in) they've lost any future business from us.

Everything we had here, from the choice steaks to the homemade deserts, was delicious. The owners, Rob and Rachel, did everything to make sure our dining experience was a memorable one, and it was just that.
