I booked at midday, we got to the restaurant to find they hadn't even put a table aside when I booked. The waiter spilt my glass of red wine all over me, my husband had to ask him for a refill. My lamb back strap salad was just awful. Over cooked lamb and the salad was basically leaves smothered in yogurt with a ton of feta through it and canned beetroot. The whole night was a joke. Will never return.

We came here for a birthday and had a set menu (there was around 20 people), the entrees were OK but after waiting 30 minutes it wasn't really worth it. We waited a further hour and a half for our main meals and they were horrible. The steaks weren't cooked to how we ordered (we were told that it was a miscommunication in the kitchen), they were very fatty and they were stone cold. The flat head tails looked like fish fingers and were tiny on a big bowl of chips (I wouldn't even give kids these). The service overall was terrible, there were huge lines at the bar and we had to wait around 15 minutes every time we went to get a drink. I would not return here.

Came here for lunch and had tapas. The service was fantastic, got given free croquettes as we accidentally sat in a booked up area and had to be moved. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Great atmosphere with good music and lots of people

Lovely little resturant hidden away behind the bar you couldnt even tell it was their. Great service from the get go! Tables well set and to standard. Place looked beautiful and inviting. Orders taken quickly and food came out just as fast. Bread was overcooked to start with. All other tapas style food served well. Nothing was a bang of flavour it was average all around.

Walked into this place not knowing what to expect as we hadnt plan to go there. Entrees were very good, way better than expected. The main was abit disappointing, we had the paella - didnt really have the kick a good paella gives. Will visit again

Honestly a bit of a let down :( had the share plates and they were disappointing. The duck and pork dish was very strange and the pork belly fat was not properly rendered on the pork belly. Salad and wine was nice.

This place could be awesome. They don't know what they want to do. Priced like Toorak and the menu is over the top. Keep it simple out the front. I'm watching a guy play guitar whilst drinking beers. I want something simple to eat and what's on offer is over the top. I walked out, grabbed some dim sims and ate them and sat back down. I had too as the only simple thing was cut up potatoes called chips.

I had the Cuban steak to share with my brother. The cut was extremely tender and high quality, cooked medium rare just as we ordered and very well seasoned. Along with friendly and professional service we had a great night. Definitely shines bright among the restaurants in the area.

Last night my boyfriend and I had a lovely dinner at Eighty One. I ordered a really nice seafood paella while my boyfriend ordered a steak which he said was one of the best steaks he has had for a while.<br/><br/>For dessert we shared the deconstructed chocolate mousse which was delicious.<br/><br/>Customer service was also fantastic. We will definitely be returning to Eighty One sometime soon.

I went here for a special date night with my wife. The entrees were great and was looking forward to an amazing night. This is where it all turned sour. My steak was so overcooked I could have used it as a hockey puck. It took the cake when the owner wanted to argue about everything. Will never go back. Never!:(

Just tried to have a meal here. We walked in and no one greeted us as we stood there wondering if we seated ourselves or not. Since no one bothered to tell us otherwise we sat down and watched the floor staff talk amongst themselves for a few minutes. With still not even a hello we left and won't be back.

AMAZING! had dinner here with friends on Saturday night and can't rave enough about the food and the service. The BBQ Short Ribs and Ocean Trout special were to die for. We thought the pricing was the best in Berwick for what you get and the restaurant and bar are lovely atmosphere and we went in to the bar for drinks afterwards to listen to the live music.This is not our first time here and we find it the most consistent place in Berwick but this last visit was a stand out!!!! Well done guys we will be back!

You could almost classify this a some what fine dining, chandeliers with a slightly clay modern, black leather look happening. The food isnt to bad for what you pay for and the service is pretty average. They have recently changed their menu and will update soon upon my new findings :-)

Whist there is the casual option - there is the very impressive white tablecloth section out the back. Menu was not too over pretentious with a good selection to suit all tastes. Certainly a place you could comfortably book a table at if you were looking to impress. The front section is relaxed and perfect for after work drinks. Writing this solidifies the fact that I need to come back here more often.

Great atmosphere, nice chilled out vibe with a band playing. Great for drinks on a Fri/Sat night.<br/>Food is pricey & of average quality. I had the pork sliders which the brioche was really dry! The meat also was dry & for $14 for 2 mini sliders is a bit rough. <br/>Also had the Manchego croquettes... Too much smoked paprika which made it so bitter & unedible. Lacked salt. -no salt or pepper on table either.<br/>The best thing was Vesna, our waitress, with top quality service!! 5 stars to her!<br/>Will come back for drinks but not food!

Went to 81 with my family for my birthday on Wednesday night had the Seafood Paella the only seafood in that dish was one muscle sitting on top. We ordered that large bowl which wasn't much difference to the small bowl they then thru out what they didn't dish up. Sorry but I was very disappointed.

Unbelievable!!!. After reading reviews on this restaurant we were going to with friends for dinner I was a little hesitant to say the least. But after reading similar reviews for other restaurants that I have been to and loved I ignored them and went in fresh. Everything was amazing! From the food to the staff to the live music in the front bar and the atmosphere. There is literally nothing I could fault in this place. I felt compelled to write this as obviously only extremely negative people write reviews or people with some mixed up agenda and to let future diners know how great it is. Well done guys we will be back

We truly did have a great night out. EightyOne finally redeemed itself, the food was so much better this time around and I really want to go back and try some of the other items on the menu. The restaurant may have gotten some average reviews in the past, but I can see a trend of people appreciating it more in the recent months. Perhaps they still need to be able to offer a more extensive menu and more variety to please more diners, or perhaps they should stick to what they do best and offer what they are good at - in my case, I am more than happy with the selection.

Couldn't fault it.. Dined last night in the dining room. Group of 4. Exceptional service and advice from 2 wait staff- a man and a woman, both outstanding. 2 ordered the fish curry special and loved it, one the lamb - small but very good and I had the pork belly- amazing. Desserts and cheese to finish. All up $210 including drinks. We travelled 40 minutes to dine here , and would do it again in a flash.

The restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere, and the staff were really friendly and responsive. However, beyond about 7pm, it became so loud in the venue that I could barely hear my partner across the table! It got to the point that it was almost unbearable.<br/><br/>The menu was incredibly uninspiring, with little to choose from. Had there not been 4 chefs specials, I would not have found a single thing I wanted to eat. My meal (curried flathead) was amazing, but my partners flat iron steak was fatty, tasteless and incredibly difficult to cut with the almost blunt steak knife. The deconstructed candy bar was delicious and tasted just like a chocolate and peanut butter bar.<br/><br/>Overall, the food was fairly good, but needs a larger range. I'd suggest getting there early, so at least you have a bit quieter atmosphere for longer!

Unbelievable. Had a catch up with a group of girlfriends for dinner here the other night after not being for years (I moved away) and we had and amazing time. All staff were so friendly and diligent we didn't have to ask for anything and the food was divine. We then went in the front bar and spent the night listening to the singer in the front bar who was awesome. Great restaurant / bar in the suburbs will definitely be back!

Our waitress was outstanding. Very friendly, kept our tbl of 10 ppl very happy. 7 meals came out and then got told 3 steaks got dropped so would be a few minutes. Got my Rare steak a good 25 minutes later only to have a medium steak. All other ppl finished meals. Not offered a comp drink or dessert. Whilst steak was still nice was disappointing to be eating separately from everyone else.Partner had lamb which was very much on the rare side. Whilst food was still nice I will be in no rush to return although our waitress was excellent in dealing with us and our situation.

Very overpriced and bland food. Have been here for drinks on many occasions. Always good and great atmosphere. However, their dinner offerings are very disappointing, small and overpriced. My friends had zucchini flowers as a main. When it arrived, there was three flowers with a tiny micro salad. We were told this was the main course size, and it was $26!! After complaining, the price was reduced to $22. Others had the savoury tart which was offered as a main. Again, about the diameter of a single serve pie, with no salad or vegetables - $26! Upon another complaint, the price was reduced to $16. Desserts were small and bland. At $12, not good value at all.

The first week we moved to Berwick, Epicure The Age featured one of our very own local restaurants for it’s weekly review. Eight One Berwick. I took it as a sign from above, obviously. Our new land was truly blessed by Larissa Dubecki and her 12 stars out of 20. Obviously having read about it I had to visit this restaurant. So I did. I went first of all with a girlfriend. We were keen to see each other and catch up and I was glad to have a semi decent restaurant for us to attend in my new ‘hood. We were not disappointed. My idea of a perfect last supper would be to eat finger food for the entire meal.

SUBLIME. We have always been a fan of this little gem after moving to the burbs from the city, it is the only place we ever go to. Amazing Tapas and staff and love the live entertainment. The new chef has definitely taken things to a whole new level and the food in the dining room is to die for. Reading others say it is highly priced is ridiculous it is no more expensive than anything else around here including the pub. The place is just so beautiful that they have obviously perceived that it would cost more. Can't recommend 81 highly enough!!!

Almost there. I can see why your likes/dislikes are running at around 50%. The food was excellent, all three of us enjoyed our meals, steak chicken rissotto all prepared as requested and very tasty. <br/>However, the table for three that was available when we arrived "wasn't yours" so we waited while another one was made up. The complimentary bread got to our table, but after the mains were served. The wine list is very expensive.<br/>I'd go back, but there is room for improvement.

Disappointing!. I suggested eightyone when my Mum & Dad & I were planning a Friday lunch. I’d been to eightyone after work for a few drinks in the past and enjoyed the atmosphere and the superb selection of beers, both draught and bottled. <br/><br/>Our first impression as we walked into the front bar was great. My Dad was impressed with the atmosphere however we were promptly ushered away to the restaurant at the back. It felt like we were secretly taken on a time warp back to a 1980’s country RSL (and NOT in a good way!). Clearly the same attention to detail showcased at the front was not followed through to our dining room at the rear. Very dull, very dreary and very disappointing. Perhaps a white tablecloth would have disguised the chipped and worn table. <br/><br/>The friendly staff member described the “pie of the day” as a Wagyu Beef Pie cooked in a dark ale sauce served in a casserole dish covered with pastry with a side of fat chips and salad. Images of tender chunks of prime beef in a thick rich dark ale sauce instantly brought me back to the modern dining we’ve all come to enjoy in Melbourne. There were other equally divinely described dishes on offer but for me this was an easy decision. Wagyu Beef Pie for me!<br/><br/>The presentation with the four chunky chips and meagre portioned salad wasn’t a massive issue for me (I am prone to having eyes larger than my appetite) so began on the pie with earnest. Instantly the 1980 RSL (still NOT in a good way) came flooding back to me! Hidden from view by the pastry was a bland portion of mince meat, a couple tiny peas and cubed carrots and not a hint of the promised dark ale sauce. My attempts to combine the pastry, “meat”, chips and salad did little to produce a semblance of taste and the absence of crunch from the chips was deafening.<br/><br/>Our disappointment with the pie was conveyed to a male staff member. He explained the pie was a slowed cook braised wagyu beef pie. We insisted this was not the case! He was genuinely sympathetic and deducted the cost of a round of drinks. While I appreciate the sentiment I feel the disappointment of the dated décor in the “back” restaurant, coupled with the poor meal is worthy of caution for future diners.<br/><br/>If you insist on visiting eightyone, stay away from the Wagyu Beef Pie and book to secure a seat in the front room. Perhaps this venue is best suited for a couple after work drinks and finger food. This is how I’ve enjoyed it in the past.

Overpriced and ordinary. Have been a few times for after work drinks and tapas (very nice) and had been wanting to try lunch or dinner for a long time. Went with a couple if friends for lunch and was very disappointed. Staff were uninterested and not invested in their job. My bruschetta claimed to have haloumi cheese but it was a bit of grated cheese on top. My friend ordered the pie of the day which was a wagyu beef and vegetable....it was a bland mince meat that tasted broiled. Horrid and far too pricey for food that's not worth it. I expected far more. I'll stick to drinks only next time!

Hosted a birthday function here for 30 people on a Saturday night for fingerfood and drinks, and it all went perfectly. The private front bar area had fantastic atmosphere with the open fire and great acoustic musician. Everyone kept commenting on the atmosphere and the beauty of the building. Staff were fantastic and communicated well with us about when to bring food, birthday cake and when the bar tab was nearing limits set by us. Everyone loved the food and all was eaten immediately, would probably order more next time just because it was so yummy. Special mention to the guys on the bar who went out of their way to make sure I was having a great birthday. Drinks selection here is great, my guests enjoyed trying different beers and ciders on tap and local wines served by knowledgable bar staff. I would definitely recommend this venue for a function of 30-40 people it was a great night thanks eighty one, we will be back for dinner soon.

Firstly the atmosphere is fantastic in the front room, perfect lighting and an acoustic guitarist. Our entrees, mains and desserts were divine. While nothing was a problem for the staff, the only niggle I had was I was constantly getting up to ask for drink service, and to see mains and dessert menus. Other than that minor issue, a fantastic night! We will be back!!!!

Ordinary, overpriced food & an arrogant manager. Like many others, I really wanted to like this place. First impressions were good, as the fit out is very nice. The food, however, was extremely overpriced and ranged (in the choices made by our table of 6) from ordinary to bad. One member of our group took one bite of her ricotta gnocchi and didn't want any more - several of us tried it and agreed it tasted a bit strange. However, there was no sign of the waitress until everyone else had completely finished their meals. At that point, the waitress offered to "order another meal" but of course it was too late by then and our disappointed diner had preferred to go hungry than risk re-ordering. We explained the problem and the waitress assured us that they could "work something out for us" and went to speak with her manager. She later returned with the message that her manager said the gnocchi was made fresh every day, so it definitely wasn't stale. We explained that this was not the issue and she said the manager would be over to speak to us. Half of the party left (to get something else to eat) while the rest of us finished our bottle of wine and waited for the manager. Eventually, the bill came - with the full price charged for the uneaten meal. The manager never arrived. Bad takeaway pizza would be preferable to another meal at this overpriced, pretentious establishment.

Did not enjoy.. The food was average. I had the crumbed Venison. It was lacking flavour.<br/>The waitress seemed to be run off her feet. She was one of only two serving. The worst thing was the temperature. We were sitting in the back half of the restaurant and were freezing. We asked the waitress twice if she could turn up the thermostat on the air conditioner and she said that she would ask her manager to show her how. When paying our bill, I told the manager how uncomfortable we'd been and he acted as though he was completely unaware of the problem. He also seemed quite unconcerned and unapologetic. I won't be going back there again!

One of the entrees we had was the House Cured Salmon Gravlax Salad with quinoa, celery leaves, orange, fennel and olive oil caviar. It definitely was packed full of flavour and I do love a good salmon dish. It was refreshing yet fulfilling at the same time, and I just love how all the components of this dish worked really well together to create a complete appetizer.

Not going again. I have been to Bar81 several times but on the most recent occasion decided 'never again'. We booked for 3 with 2 vegetarians. When we wanted to order we were told the sole vegetarian special had sold out, the remaining option was the gnocchi which was a dish to be endured rather than enjoyed. Everything else about the. restaurant is very nice, staff, atmosphere and the food n general but the gnocchi was stomach turning and enough to turn me off lest the same situation arise in future.

Delightfuly Pleasant. My family celebrated our Mum's 80th birthday dinner here on Wednesday night. Mum grew up in Brewick and knows the history of the old historic buildings. Which is why we booked her dinner here. We had a table of 5 booked out in the dining room area-to our surprise the place was full. On a wednesday night?! <br/>We were greeted promtly and taken to our table. There was a warm comforting feel to the restaurant, with all the tables lit up with small red candles. And the beautiful artwork on display. Our waitress made us feel very welcome indeed. Taking mums coat for her. We were poured water and given menus once seated. Although it seemed busy no-one seemed rushed. <br/>As we had a few dietry restrictions-this lead to a number of questions. To which the waitress was happy to spend time at our table answering and explaining. Everything was answered with honesty and knowledge. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with our needs. My brother was undecided on the choice of wine so she also let us taste some wines all while explaining the differences between each of them. Making his choice alot easier. <br/>We were told all the specials in detail and noticed this waitress had no writing pad-she memorized it all, relayed everything so confidently and then didn't even write our order down!!We had entrees and mains. <br/>Mum commented saying "i wish i had a memory like that!" <br/>We were not at all disappointed with our evening. Its a breath of fresh air to walk into a restaurant and be treated like family, and to know it is all honest. To see that there are waiters/ess' out there that have knowledge, and know the product they are selling. Service-GREAT, Ambiance-GREAT, Food-FULL OF FLAVOR, Drink-GREAT LOCAL SELECTION.<br/>My family really enjoyed our night out with you. Thank you for providing us with all aspects of dining out is about. We are happy to share our experience. Dinner for 4. Sat in the less formal area, was really cosy. Love the decor and separating screens. Food is a little over priced, but well presented, well flavoured and really does fill you up. Must save room for dessert! Definitely book and dress well.Shall come back for a more private dinner. Overall: Food 9, Price 6.5, Service 9

Reviewers had to be paid to revies this place. Went to this restaurant after reading the reviews. What a joke. The food was ok! But what a turn off when you listen to the staff talk about how the restaurant isn't making any money and they have had to make cut backs. If i was the owner of this restaurant i would be extremely embarressed. These 2 girl staff members or supervisors as they were not in a uniform made me leave that place with a very negative attitude. Not only did i hear one of the girls swear we also had to wait to be served until they finished there conversations and then they looked at us as if to say " well what do you want." I wonder why this restaurant isn't making any money.. your staff are disgraceful. Never will we return even if the food was ok!

Neutral. I have been to Eightyone a few times, admittedly mostly on Sunday afternoons for snacks and a wine while listening to the live music. The food is neither bad nor great and the service can be quite inconsistent, but the acoustic musician is quite good. <br/>Overall can be a hit or a miss and I haven't yet been given the opportunity to rave about the place as have others, one or two in particular that read as though they may have been written by the owner/s....?

What the?. Had a birthday dinner there. Food was terribly over priced for the standard that came out on the plate! You're a restaurant in Berwick that looks like something out of the 90s and you're charging bloody good restaurant prices - even for a nice place in the city! Good wine list and great beers. Over all kind of lame though.

Disgraceful!!!. Had a meal here on the weekend we were offered a set menu for $35 a head, I ordered gnocchi which when I checked the menu was worth $22, my girlfriend had fish and chips which contained what looked like 3 flathead tails and about 4 chips, probably the equivalent of $6 at the fish and chips shop around the corner. The staff were extremely rude when questioned about the meals, would never go here again!

I booked a table here for my husbands birthday. At the end of the night when we had all finished our meals we were informed we would be charged for some guests who didn't attend. We were charged for 6 missing guests when there were four. Unfortunately they had my bank details to reserve the table and therefore i was paying for it one way or another. When we asked then to have the 6 meals we had to pay for (most of our guests could've easily eaten more than the small serves they got) we were refused. They told us that WE WOULD PAY FOR SIX MEALS THAT THEY REFUSED TO SERVE. The owner came and explained that as a small business she lost out because those four seats could've been filled which is fair enough but she demanded that we pay for meals we were never going to receive I just think that's disgusting service and pretty much stealing as I had no choice when they had my bank details. On top of that we were each charged $35 for each meal when I checked the menu the gnocchi is $22, all other menu options offered were under $35 so she had already charged us more for what other people were paying in the first place. Just really dissapointed in the way myself and our guests were treated. I certainly won't be back the owner said that it is explained in the fine print that I never read as I booked it over the phone. I was told it was emailed to me but when I asked her what address she thought she had she refused to answer my question knowing full well I was never informed. I checked the web site and was unable to find this "fine print". <br/>Being six months pregnant and simply wanting my husband to gave a great birthday I refused to let them ruin our night however I certainly won't be back and would never reccomend this restaurant to any one. On another note the web site said there would be a two piece accoustic band. No music was there at all!

Poor Service,Expencive food,Rude staff what more can you ask for ?. Wanted to have night out with friends and made a booking for 27 people we had 21 turn up, we were told we could have a choice of 6 main meals which started out OK,except for the pumpkin risotto turning out to be mushroom risotto and charging $45 for it, once the bill came they charged us for 27 people when we brought it up with the Manager we were threatened by the bar staff to fight outside, the manager threw the bill at one of my heavily pregnant friends and told us they would call the police if we didn't pay, i cant believe a business in this day and age can operate with such incompetence

Well, this used to be our favourite local restaurant. Food was always of a high standard and service excellent. On Wednesday we were disappointed. The service was slow, although the restaurant wasn't busy - I counted 23 covers. The food was average at best, I had confit duck at $34 a serve, this consisted of a very small legend was so well done (burnt??) on the underside it was in edible.

Rude and disrespectful staff. Overpriced meals for low quality food. Have officially black-banned this venue and so have all my friends. It is such a shame because the atmosphere is beautiful with the option of a fireplace and music. Until something is done about management and staff I will not be back!

Don't bother!. Been here once before a couple of years ago and didn't rate it that highly then but decided to give it another shot. To give you an idea how good it was I spent the trip home eagerly signing up to urbanspoon in order to bag it. We were seated in a booth opposite the bar. It is portrayed as an up market restaurant by the bar soon filled with patrons and it became loud. We ordered bread to start which soon arrived and on e finished wasnt taken away for 20-30 mins. I had a pint which was finished and wanted another drink. NO staff member came near us for 30 mins. To make matters wrse it was a quiet night for the kitchen however staff were more interested in socializing than service. This included the female owner who did not even ask how our meals were. My main the rump was bland, over cooked and tough as old boots. My wife's fish and chips were goo however this could not outshine the overall horrible experience.

What service?. After reading the article dated 3.4.12 in The Age- Epicure (in relation to the head chef and his ongoing work with the Noosa food and wine festival), and being in Berwick on this particular night we decided to try this place out... We shouldn't have bothered! We arrived about 8pm and waited in front of the "please wait to be seated". We waited, and kept waiting until finally the girl behind the bar decided that she would bother to come over and ask us if she could help us. We were seated and given menus and a wine list. Having decided what we wanted to eat after 5 minutes we again waited, and kept waiting... The extreme lack of service prompted us to get up and walk out. We didn't bother telling the staff we were leaving as there seemed to be no interest at all in the restaurant patrons. <br/>If I were the chef here or at least a F.O.H manager I would have been making the utmost effort on this particular day/week to make the service outstanding, the reason being that after having a write up in the Epicure you would assume that you may have more business and that you should be more attentive! Or is it that this is the type of service you receive on an early weeknight out in the sticks?<br/>Having read some of the comments below, I can now see that we are not the only ones. I definitely wont be going back!!!

Pretty Good!. Husband and I booked a last min dinner here tonight. Greeted at the door straight away, I noticed a sign saying no thongs, i was wearing thongs (9mths preg) nothing was said so that was good. Had a great waiter very helpful. We shared the calamari and stuffed mushrooms for tapas and they were both delish! Spewing i couldnt taste the aoli but hubby said it was great. For my 'main' i ordered the entree beetroot and goats cheese tart, when it came out unforuntatly the cheese was served cold on top, so i had to send it back and get one with out the cheese, i felt terrible but nowhere on the menu did it say it was going be cold, i had wrongly assumed it would be hot mixed in the tart not served on top. They were really good about and got me another one pretty quick and it was so yummy! Hubby had the porterhouse, decent sized serve with onion rings and fat chips but for $35 you would expect a better cut of meat, it was quite fatty and not the best steak his ever had. Overall pretty good experince and will go back. Just finding it hard being pregnant and not being able to eat a lot of things and the menu not explaining things in full.

Best Place EVER!. Went to Eighty One for dinner last week with a girlfriend and met up with friends afterwards and was overwhelmed! Not being from the area and coming from the city I didn't expect to see something like this in the burbs. <br/><br/>We were greeted promptly and sat and started with Tapas followed by one of the best dishes I've ever had. It was a piri piri chicken and not something I would usually order but glad I did. My girlfriend had the Ricotta Gnocchi and said it was to die for. Service was exceptional and fast. Drinks were served promptly too which was impressive.<br/><br/>We then moved into the bar to meet with friends who joined us later and loved the singer. The place was pumping, such a great vibe and the bar guys were great. At the end of the night Andrew Wishart who was runner up in X Factor came in (apparently he lives nearby) and got up and sang 4 songs being I was a fan I was rapt!<br/><br/>Never posted on this before but really wanted to share - best night EVER!

I wanted to like it. I wanted to like Eightyone. Berwick is in need, has always been in need, of a decent restaurant. It doesn't need--and couldn't support--a fine dining place, but a casual restaurant turning out good quality food on a consistent basis wouldn't go astray.<br/><br/>Now don't get me wrong: Eightyone is a step in the right direction. I like the idea. I like the look of the place. I like the look of the menu. It's nice to see them serving dry-aged steaks and venison instead of mediocre quality meat with a boring peppercorn sauce. <br/><br/>It's just that it ... falls a little flat. We walked in and stood, right where the 'wait to be seated' sign is, for a good ten minutes, waitstaff moving past us. We were there for a group booking, altho' the staff weren't to know this. We were only acknowledged when I gave up and walked through the restaurant. Now I get that restaurants, this one included, get busy. But this is the sort of slight that would turn away a lot of new customers, especially when there's so much competition along the strip. A simple 'will be with you in a minute' would've solved everything.<br/><br/>The menu had some interesting ideas, mixed with some really conservative ones (not a bad thing), but the execution fell flat. The venison--which, if you're pan-frying/BBQing/etc, you can only really serve rare or maybe, at most, medium-rare--was overcooked. Dry and sad. Not a nice end for Bambi's mum. The white wine sauce was a really odd matching for venison. I mean, a red wine reduction? Sure. But this sauce was just inspid when tasted with such a strong-flavoured beast. The filling of pork pie (a hot one--not like the cold pies you might find in a deli or British butchers) was dominated by raisins ... meaning it tasted more like a Christmastime mince pie (the intense fruitiness, the sickly sweetness) than a pastry-topped bowl of braised meat.<br/><br/>I really wanted to like this place and I'll give it another go next time I'm in Berwick. Could be they were still refining new ideas for the menu. Could be they're still finding their feet. Still, let down aside, Eightyone is a step in the right direction for Berwick's restaurant scene.

Great Place. We have just had our girls night out....what a terrific venue. Food was delicious, service awesome, atmosphere relaxed. Merryn was on top of the drinks orders, we never waited and all our food came out together. Compliments to the chef and also the staff (Merryn)...we had a ball and will be back!!!

Gastropub Lunch. Lovely building - shame that sitting by the fire means getting the draft from the door on your back though. Went fro a weekday lunch - Tuesday to Friday a 2 course lunch with a glass of wine or a pot of Beer is $25. We had calamari and broccoli/cauliflower herbed florets with dip to start - actually very nice and quickly served. but followed by very average fish and chips and a mushroom pasta. wines included were of varieties to suit every taste. A basic pub lunch.

Great food and service. Lucky for us that we didnt listen to the security man on the door who said it was fully booked and we wouldnt get a seat. This restaurant is very impressive from its food to its service. Waiters were helpful and attentive. Food was plentiful and delicious, wine by the glass was reasonably priced. Will be going back. Great restaurant for a quiet dinner for 2 or a table full of friends.

Great Modern Aust Food in a funky restaurant. This is our place of choice for a quality meal in the outer south-east suburbs. Firstly always book - it is very hard to get in, even earlier in the week. The food is full of quality ingredients. We've never had a bad meal here and keep going back to try the different options. Also service is very good here. Really like the Tapas menu.
