Folie Douce

It was my first time visiting since the change in ownership and I couldn't have been happier. The service was attentive, helpful, and courteous. The food was even better than I remember it. We ordered the prosciutto wrapped scallops and the artichoke heart cheesecake as appetizers (both delicious, but one of them would have been sufficient) and both the halibut (on special) and the bouillabaisse as entrees. The halibut was perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned. The bouillabaisse was exceptional on its own, but even more delicious as we dipped the garlic bread in it. Sadly, we didn't have any room for dessert.

So far the best flat garlic bread I have ever had in my life. If you want authentic thin crust Italian pizza made with fresh mozzarella this is the place; no doubt best pizza in Humboldt county. Mandy the server was awesome. The owner came to check on us which I think was nice. For sure this is my new favorite pizza place.

Updated with the change of ownership: We've been fans of Folie Douce for years and were cautiously excited when we learned about the changes - once again we can report how delighted we are with the restaurant, food and service. The North African additions deliver new and delicious options for the area - new spices, new flavors, new sauces, and more. Wonderful! We did note, however, that the noise level has gone up a bit, since the carpeting was removed and the tablecloths are gone. Otherwise, charming and delightful...! Our Old Review: One of our favorite restaurants in Humboldt County. Absolutely wonderful food and good ambiance, with excellent service. Many (most?) of their ingredients are organic, grass fed, free range, and locally sourced. Terrific!

Excellent service, cuisine. Local & organic. King salmon was prepared perfectly with a cucumber salsa. Otters with lemon sorbet were outstanding. PLUS: gluten free corn bread!! And broccoli soup superb. Highly recommend. Very busy but host got us a table. Would recommend reservation as it seems to be a very popular place, even on a Wednesday.

Great food! Staff was quite pleasant and attentive, gave us ample time to make decisions and answered our questions. Food was delicious. Steak was extremely tender/melt in your mouth, oysters were delectable, artichoke cheesecake was definitely worth trying (magnificent). Pasta wasn’t presented as anticipated but tasted delicious. 1/2 size portions are plenty, especially with some appetizers.

Man oh man this place is the bom bom. Located in the heart of Humboldt county, and California in general as far as I'm concerned. Seemingly from the outside you would not expect anything amazing from Folie Douce, however, the Filet Mignon I had here was on a whole different level than anything I've had in the past. I'm no stranger to fine cuisine, my overall experience at this quaint little Arcata restaurant has set a new bar!
