This is disappointing to post, I go here at least once a week for their breakfast burritos. It is usually really good, but last Friday I ordered 4 burritos for me and my coworkers, which totaled over $50, and they were terrible. They were cold when I got them, and tasted terrible. The meat didn’t taste right, and the tortilla was all torn up. Then later that day I saw a Facebook post that another customer saw them serving food that had fallen on the floor!! Of course it was the same time of day that I was there. I will never go to this location again!

Food is pretty good for what it is in Ames but I've never eaten Mexican before where cheese isn't a main ingredient and an automatic. If you want cheese on your nachos, super fries or burrito it will cost you extra $$$3. I don't even want to find out what sour cream might cost me. Weirdest thing ever! Am I wrong?

My first experience with Abelardo's is a "can't wait to come back" winner! The picture menu in the drive through was very helpful and my food looked just like the picture. The tortillas were grilled and strong enough to hold the generous and delicious chicken fajita, which was spicy enough to get my attention but not overwhelming. Most refried beans are a mere afterthought, but not these. Mui bueno!!

Terrible service. Not at all like the one in Ankeny. Waited forever in line and my order wasn’t even right. When I told them it wasn’t what I ordered they told me I’d have to come inside and wait and pay again. Spent nearly $20 on something I didn’t even order. Skip this place and go to Rico’s.

So glad that Abelardo's opened a chain in Ames (located at where the Long John Silver's used to be). I can finally get my fix of chorizo and egg burrito for breakfast without having to go all the way down to Des Moines. I have to admit though, the West Des Moines chain still have the best breakfast tacos, but who has the time to drive all the way to WDM on a Saturday morning... Having grown up in Southern California, I can attest to the quality of Abelardo's carne asada fries (it's called "super fries" on the menu). It tastes just like home, except I recommend subbing in the adobada for meat. Given that we're in Iowa, Abelardo's adobada (made from carne/pork) is to die for, and it goes well with anything on their menu (tacos, burritos, super fries/nachos). The other thing that I recommend is their avocado salsa. It's like guacamole, except 10 times better (and spicy too!). The service is friendly, the drive-thru intercom works, and the decor... well, it's typical Mexican fast food/grease grill. Beware of the slow wait time after ordering, they cook everything fresh after ordering.

They have a drive-thru window, but are closer to a sit down restaurant than to fast food. You order at the counter and then they bring you your food. They have a very extensive menu and delicious, authentic Mexican food.

Had a wonderful catering event for work today and was showed so much hospitality by the woman who coordinated the event. The food was also excellent. Thank you again!

Abelardo's Mexican Food is one of my go to restaurant whenever I feel like eating outside. There are a lot of good things in this restaurant; their open and closing hours which is very early and late compared to other competitor, food price range which is friendly to college student and the food itself. I would recommend to try their adobada (pork) or their carne asada (beef steak) burrito / tacos.
