Steak 'n Shake

Let's be honest, steak and shake is not fancy. But it's fairly cheap and usually pretty tasty. This particular location is smaller and had some less enthusiastic employees compared to others. I'd give it 3.5 if I could. Servers were helpful and kind, but it was obvious from watching things that they weren't stellar employees. No sense of urgency or concern for impressing their managers that I could see. Food was a bit slow in coming and only happened because management was gently pressing things forward the whole way. Ultimately I won't likely be back to this location when I can go elsewhere and have the same thing, in a better space with a more lively set of employees. The only person working with any sense of urgency was the shift leader or manager, a shame.

There was nothing wrong with my visit. The employees were friendly and they even cleaned up a mess when my sister accidentally spilled her water. We got our food promptly and didn't feel a rush to leave, even though it was Thanksgiving. The only small improvement would have been refilling my drink, most often enough they ask or just take the glass but neither happened, but it wasn't a big deal as we were about to order shakes anyway.

They were swamped with a large party (half the seating area). Our waitress was great and let us know ahead of time of the slight delay we would experience. 10 minutes after our order was in, the manger came by to apologize and offered an ice cream sandwich to each of us for our troubles. It was no trouble us. I can respect good communication even when things aren't up to par. Well handled in my book. Food was great as well.

The food here is really good and usually the service is pretty normal as far as wait times. Sometimes it takes longer than it should. Especially to check out, I had to wait 20 minutes once to pay. But I still come back here, it's close to home and like I said it's usually pretty normal service and the food is excellent. I had the best milkshake I've ever had here once, I think they used more cookie butter than normal and it was incredible.
