Chapala

Sunday 04.03.2022 The remodel is great. Glad they are finally open again. We missed you Chapala. Today was as the first day of the soft open. They are still little under staffed and the wait was long, but it was more than worth the wait. We had the Jalisco fajitas. It had onions, a good amount of yellow, red and green peppers. There were 5 or 6 shrimp of a good size. Additionally there were strips of beef and chicken. The portions were a nice size. The flavors were amazing. Service was even good even though they were busy and stretched thin. We had a side plate with the rice, beans, sour cream,guac and pico with tiny bit of lettuce. All was cooked great. We will return and hope they get the staffing issues solved soon. If you have never been you need to go.

Service was awful. Server was actually rude to the next table. Salsa is basically tomato juice. Cheese enchiladas were very bland and once the cheese cooled down, the texture was like eating plastic. The charra beans literally had hot dog weenies cut up in them. I ate about 3 bites and all I could taste were the weenies. The taco was the only thing there that was edible. I’m being generous by saying that this was worth maybe half of the almost $15 they charged me. Sorry, but I do not recommend this place at all.

Food was well packaged, hot and tasty, and the female staff member was very nice and welcoming. This is something that is missing in other restaurants. My next trip through here I sit in the restaurant to see if I get the same treatment. I'm sure I will. Excellent food is hard to come by working over the road. I'm glad I stop here.

Normally I love this place but now, not so much. First, many of the dinner options don't come with rice and/or beans. If you want this normal, no extra charge, side dish provided at most Mexican restaurants you have to pay for it. So, this additional charge is close to covering the cost of an entire bag of rice or beans. Second, you are charging me extra if paying by credit card so basically covering your fees since I don't carry cash. Third, my waiter Carlos (which I only know from my receipt) was argumentative and rushed me through everything. So much for my relaxing, enjoyable dinner expectations. Makes me sad that I probably won't return to my favorite restaurant.
