Reviews of Michael's Artisan Bakery

My Mom and I stopped at Michaels for a cup of coffee and a pastry. The coffee was lukewarm and stale. My Mom's cup had dirt on the outside. When I asked to get a clean cup, the owner didn't even apologize. She just poured the old coffee into a new cup. The pastries were hard as rock and tasted like they had been on the shelf for a long time. Sadly the place has gone down. I'm sure the bread and cakes are wonderful but if you're looking for a place to sit for a coffee, go somewhere else.

I got the French loaf, lemon square and scone. Later I got a pre-wrapped box of cookies, which I shared with my client and was a HIT! The food was amazing. The fact that the bread was still steaming they had to wrap it in a paper bag, gives you an idea of the freshness. My recommendation is to pick up the bread or buns in the morning and grab some sliced meat & cheese from a nearby grocery store. You'll have a delicious lunch, and it won't be too complicated. I traveled from ON to BC, and this was a treasured find. If you live in Surrey, you're lucky you have this place.

I was told this was a great place for lunch but nobody ever said it's also a fantastic bakery! I didn't see it on the menu so I asked if they could make me a clubhouse sandwich. Yes they can and along with it I had some baby size shortbread cookies and a cup of fresh full body coffee ☕️! As I went to pay I noticed allot more baked goods than I first noticed so I took home a mincemeat tart and a peanut butter cookie , to my delight they both brought me a sweetness and joy moment. Micheal's is now my newest go to lunch place and the bakery will also stay in my destination for goodies.

I cannot believe what just happened. I bought a chocolate ganache cake from this bakery but found the cake not sliceable. There was barely any sponge to hold the cake - it was 97% filled with cream, like pudding. I tried cutting two slices, but the cake just kept collapsing - it was clearly not a "cake" but a "tiramisu." I went to the store today and asked for an exchange. The owner said it was my fault the cake had collapsed; I was supposed to run the knife under hot water before attempting to slice it. I told him I had this cake many times in the past and had no trouble, and anyone could clearly see that there was only the thinnest layers of sponge to hold the cake. Th owner then said he'd give me an exchange, but he'd have to take two slices out of the new cake to compensate for the ones I'd taken. I could not believe what I was hearing. Then the daughter of the owner came and told me she'd give me a whole cake but then I'd have to pay $10 for the two slices I'd taken. I was flabbergasted. I was humiliated. I told them they shouldn't treat their customers like this, and they said they had many customers so they didn't need another one. I went to this store on every special occasion to grab cakes; I cannot believe they would treat a customer like this. They have insulted and humiliated me beyond words. I have never seen such cheap, greedy people. I will never, ever go back to this place.

Just finished the last piece of my Birthday Cake and it is probably the best Chocolate Hazelnut Cake I've ever had. Very rich and moist! Unlike those cakes sold in supermarkets, it is not too sweet. Will definitely try again next time. Their cookies and sandwiches are also good. Love love this bakery!

I go here every now and then for lunch and their sandwiches are really good. The turkey sandwich is my favourite and the bread is so delicious. Then goulash soup is really good too. I just find the price for a sandwich a little steep ($8 something before tax). They have big giant cookies that look amazing but I can't say they taste all that great... Kind of old tasting. I've also gotten the chocolate ganache cake for a bday and it is heavenly!! Rich and moist! And the tiramisu cake is to die for!!! I bet all the other cakes are amazing too!
