The place is really cozy and in a nice neighborhood. We got a place in the terrace which is lovely and it is quite warm despite the cold weather. The service is really good, they were fast to serve our dishes and refilling our water. The wine list has variety, the food is yummy, the menu has different dishes like chicken, fish, meat, pasta and pot pie, besides that they have some special options for the day. We really enjoyed our evening at this place and it is our second time there. It is definitely worth considering.

Go for classic American fare, excellent service and a clubby, celeb laden atmosphere. Think the West Village version of the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The food is just fine, but you’re there for the vibe. If possible, try to get seated in the back covered garden by the fire.

Overall, the food is fine but extremely pricey and the quality doesn’t match the exorbitant price. Nonetheless, the Waverly Inn is a known hotspot of many Manhattan celebrities, and I think the ambiance is why. We dined in the covered back garden area, and it is truly beautiful. Our server was also wonderful, attentive while not rushing our group. Among the food/drink, I can recommend: 1) The Waverly Lemonade, 2) the free biscuits, and 3) the triple chocolate mousse dessert!

Boo! 👻We didn’t see any ghosts that haunt the Inn however we did have some great brunch food and excellent service. The dark decor, breathtaking paintings, and crackling fire places transported me back to a different time in New York City’s history, and I felt almost honored to be eating in such a iconic place. Overall I would recommend and hope I can get back real soon. Hope this helps!

Finally a brunch at the Waverly Inn! A long time on the list and a fantastic setting to celebrate an important milestone in a young couple’s future. We appreciated the recognition of where the best East Coast oysters are to be found—ie, north of NY Long Island—the Canadian and American New England. The burger was as good as we read about. Perfectly juicy in its medium rare cooking. The dijonaise was fantastic! We finished with a double dessert—ie the pudding was one of the best I ever had; and the chocolaty mousse. The choice went to a fantastic Munich’s classic Schneider Weisse beer. The Aventinus—a Weizen Dopplerbock Ale. “One of the best brunch place in town”.

Food gets five stars. Drinks look amazing but have zero taste. I was very disappointed with the Paloma and ended up just ordering a shot of tequila to add to it.

One of the best meals we have ever had in the city. Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. I wish we could have ordered everything on the menu. Which means, we will be back.

Booked a table at 8 the waiter forgot about us until 8.25. Sat down everything was very slow. Food that came was great but missing some of the order. A drink was totally forgotten. Salt arrived 45 mins into the meal when we had finished. When it came to paying the bill they refunded 2 dishes in compensation.

I like the banana desert. The summer truffle does not have much taste. I love the beet salad. Apple crumble desert is unacceptable: not fresh and tasteless. Garden smells very pleasant. I enjoy dining in the garden. Service does not feel quite attentive and warm

Scenic little restaurant tucked in the west village. I agree the food is a little overpriced, but it was all delicious and came out promptly. Super friendly service to boot! (Thanks Ethan.) Photo attached is of their outdoor seating area in front, but there is an inside patio and indoor bar area as well.

What a gorgeous, intimate place. I had a wow moment when I walked in. I had grilled Spanish octopus this time only and it was delicious. I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu. The Manhattan and Old Fashion were perfect.

The food, atmosphere and service were all impeccable. We started with a turmeric tea and the muffin and scone basket. We split the kale salad and it was perfect. My entree was the Berkshire pork croissant. The aioli on the croissant had a nice dose of truffle and the accompanying chips were crispy and the perfect thickness. My girlfriend had the omelette and it was also quite good. 6 out of five stars

Paid this place a visit on a sunday morning. I will admit that I did not feel very welcomed when first walking in. The waitress rudely told me “I’m dealing with something right now,” when I requested to move to the garden dining area. Afterwards a different waiter bombarded my table asking who left a napkin near the table setting ….I was very confused. But all my bad impressions of this place were made good again when I received the food. I ordered their french toast, and was not disappointed. However, I think it was the only food that stood out from this place. Still, that is not to say that the food wasn’t good. It was great! Next time I go I hope I’m treated better with the staff — I plan to order the french toast again! Delicious

This was such a cute romantic place! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. I absolutely love rustic and historic places. This place had such a lovely enclosed back garden with a fireplace and a lot of plants! Enough about the atmosphere... the food was delicious! I was too full to eat the onion rings... they're just onion rings but they were so good. Everything was excellent!

This is most definitely one of the most fantastic places in NYC! The bar is great, the dining room is fantastic & so is the food. It’s also a great place for people spotting. Been there many times but it’s extra special at Christmas time, lovely decorations and the fireplace gets you in festive spirits very quickly!

Waverly Inn is quite an old (open in one form or another since 1920) restaurant in New York in West Village. Waverly Inn used to be quite popular with celebrities and the restaurant has a reputation for being very hard to get into. I came here with a large group of girls and we booked this a few weeks before our dinner and did not have any problems getting a table (it was a late reservation for 9pm thought). Waverly Inn is located in a Dickensian townhouse built in 1844 and overlooks another house which had a big group of people on a tour in front of it, as the manager explained it apparently has ghosts. The restaurant is practically hidden from the public and located on the ground floor and is very cosy and intimate restaurant. When you walk in there is a fireplace and a bar and when your table is ready you are escorted to your table and a lot of the tables are separated, so you don’t actually see most of the other dinners, which explains why celebrities would like this place. The décor is very cool/ trendy with statues of cats, various art pieces and the lighting is low, it is quite dark there, creating that intimate feel. It is also one of those places that does not want you to take any pictures, which I did (but because I tried so hard not to be seen they did not come out very well), and I am sure the waiters saw this but were nice enough not to tell me off. Starters are $17 on average and main course $35 but can go up to $60 for the Dover Sole. The main executive chef is Ashley Merriman and Waverly Inn serves typical New York style food. I ordered the starter of “Iceberg Wedge Salad with buttermilk and blue cheese dressing, bacon lardons and cherry tomatoes” and a main course of “Grilled Dry-Aged New York Strip Steak”, but some of the other starters my friends ordered were the “Oysters On The Half Shell with house-made

Waverly Inn has always been high on my list for a romantic meal, as it’s tucked away in one of the quiet cobblestone streets of the West Village and is practically hidden from the public. It seemed fitting for this cold and rainy winter morning and I breathed a huge sigh of relief when we stepped in the door. A crackling fireplace welcomed us in the front room, making me consider ordering a drink at the miniature bar before we started dining. We were instead led to our table, where we had the choice of dining in the enclosed glass garden room or the darker, intimate inside dining room. For the sake of my photos, we chose the garden room, which was wrapped in greenery and ivy and temporarily transplanted us to a secret garden. The rain pounded around us while we soaked up the light-filled space. A for atmosphere, which set high expectations for the meal. The menu is difficult to find online, as it changes constantly. The Waverly Inn seems to own its element of mystery, even noting on the menu that photography is forbidden (sorry!). I snapped a few menu photos in secret since I knew the food descriptions would escape me after a few meals. We ordered lattes to begin, which seemed even more fitting with the rainy weather. Naturally we were all starving, so we were quick to order our meals. I selected the eggs Benedict with ham confit, a buttermilk biscuit, and crispy fingerling potatoes. I thought the ham added a really nice salty component to the bite, the biscuit wasn’t overpowering, and the sauce had a great flavor. Overall the dish was solid and my

Yes it's pricey. The service is great, the wine terrific the food just so-so. The steak can be tough but the place is romantic and the crowd is lively. The vibe is overall enjoyable. If you get a chance to try it out, do. In the meantime, let's hope the kitchen improves because this place could be really terrific with the right chef.

Monk fish is ok, but not worth the price. Very cool atmosphere, especially in the winter. The dover sole was ok, but not worth the price. The burger was great and so was the country salad with organic poached egg.

Disappointment. My dining partners and I have been going to the Waverly Inn for years. What happened to this charming restaurant??!!! We were disappointed from the hospitality stand-point to the wine selections. Prices also seemingly creeped up beyond reasonable doubt. Guess we'll go back when they know how to serve a decent meal and a wonderful glass of wine to go with it!

The Waverly Inn is perhaps the West Village's most notorious celebrity hangout since Beatrice's closing, coming complete with a fabled reservation policy and enough buzz to attract honey bees. You'd think such pedigree would create an atmosphere so snooty

LOTS OF FUN. Just had dinner Wednesday night at The Waverly. Exciting, great atmosphere and some dishes were excellent. Service was great. Got reservations thru a friend of a friend...does living on Sullivan St. qualify as a neighbor of Graydon so that I can go more often?

Overrated. Went there Saturday night on double-date and was not impressed. I had been told that the Waverly Inn had a celebrity following and it was hard to get a reservation, so I was excited to try it. The meal was...ok. Just ok. My fiance did not like it at all. I tried the octopus salad to start and was surprised that it was smothered with a mayo-like sauce. It was okay. My fiance got the spaghetti special for an app and it was...ok. I got the halibut and he got the cod. Everything was just okay. The table got 4 drinks and no dessert. For $450, this meal should have been alot better. I would say our waiter was very nice, the biscuits served were yummy, and their Mac N Cheese with truffles was good. BUT, this was def overpriced. I would not go back.

TERRIBLE. Over priced, over rated. I used to love the old Waverly Inn. I guess it's now a LAW in New York, any good restaurant must close immediately, or be ruined by a new owner. AVOID THIS ONE

Highly overrated. Food was technically okay but nothing memorable, particularly for the price. Waitstaff was gruff at best. Full of douches either in too much cologne or with cooch-exposing skirts.

Paparazzi haven. So I finally dined at NYC'S "hardest reservation right now" and it was great...however interesting.
First off, the door was so hidden in the wall that I had to ask to gathered crowd of paparazzi where the door was! Embarrassing...
Once we walked in the maitre d flocked to us asking for our name...I shuttered a bit knowing the notorious nature of "missing reservations" and we were 20 minutes late but we were seated immediately! Yay. However we were seated in the front section with a prime view of the door and all the bar goers--most of whom seemed a bit touristy quite frankly. But back to the food....
Our waiter was very nice--which I didn't expect from other reviews. And shockingly--there was a VEGAN ENTREE** for me, a vegan...yay.
Heres what we got:
sparkling water (Holden brand-very good)
two rose champagnes, 2 pinot noirs with dinner
my husband got:
oysters--very very good, small, but good
tuna tartare--very good, not the best EVER, but top notch
Waverly Inn Cheeseburger--best burger in a while...esp since not even Kobe beef...
chocolate torte...very good
cappacino...yum
Me,,..
Special Porcini mushroom salad--no cheese---YUM YUM YUM!
Vegan Quinoa Risotto with green curry sauce--for qunioa, which I normally dont like--it was AMAZING!
Sorbet...lacking...only had two flavors lemon and pineapple...good, but blah...
All that for only about $200..Not bad!
So my other observations.....the bar was PACKED the whole night, and we were there from 10pm-12
And about 5-6 times the paparazzi outside went flash wild and the lame ppl at the bar all turned around stunned to see who the celebrity was.....ugh
I did expect to see someone famous though...and all i can say is thank god for the sighting of both Micky Rourke and Jared Leto.
So yes I loved this place. The reservation was hard to get---we had a conde naste connection, but once we were in, it was actually a fun fun yummy yummy night!
...the hype will die down though....spotted pig status in the future i predict....

Crazy Scene, Great Experience. Lots of reasons to hate the scene in the bar out front, the indifference to your reservation time etc..but inside, great atmosphere, and excellent, simple food. A good nite - typical of New York "velvet rope culture".
