Hoban

Loved the food! Very authentic Korean food. The staff were polite and friendly. The owner/chef stopped by the table to greet me. They also gave me free refills of side dishes. I will definitely go back when I am in town for the VA. I have been to other Korean restaurants in the city, but this one was the best so far

My friends and I went to Hoban on a Tuesday night to celebrate a birthday. We called ahead for a group of 8 but 10 showed up- the restaurant was accommodating for the last minute change. The waiter gladly split the check and was attentive to our needs. The food came very quickly. I recommend the scallion pancakes and please order soju (Korean rice wine) for the table. Everybody was so full and cheery after dinner and had lots of leftovers. Hoban also has private karaoke rooms which they currently do not have the staff to cover.

Ordered the fried dumplings which were obviously frozen and store bought. Side dishes were so dried up and weren’t edible. Glaze on the beans were nonexistent and didn’t even taste correct. Two different kimchee came out and this one was like candy. Ordered the sullungtang and didn’t get anything to season. I asked for course salt. Apparently, they don’t use it in the restaurant so I was offered fish sauce. Fish sauce in sullingtang?! Think the staff needs to learn about Korean food before working here. Husband ordered kimchi jjigae and we asked if we had a choice of the meat, the server had no clue and ran off to find out. Again, servers need to learn their menu.

First time Having Korean food!! Holy cow!!! Excellent flavor ! Waiter was very helpful with the explanation of what the different items were on the menu. I would recommend kimchi rice with pork,squid stir fry and galbi beef ribs.....you def won't be disappointed...and it's family style....def enough to share

It was my first time coming to this restaurant and will probably be my last time. I was very excited to try out Hoban because it was on my “go to list” for awhile. Decided to give it a chance today but was disappointed because the food didn’t taste very authentic. We had more authentic Korean food elsewhere before but that’s whatever. The service was okay, but it wasn’t the best. Have to give them credits for bringing the food out pretty quick. However, It surprised me at the end when I saw that we got charged automatically tip for two people. It’s not like we were needy and told the servers to grab this or grab that. We weren’t told that they charged 18% tip already and was about to give $20 tip. I just thought that the bill was a bit high then I notice there was tip added already. Maybe it’s because we are Asian and they think Asian people don’t tip good. That’s just sad. Please double check your bill next time to prevent double tipping.

Food was prepared on time but one major criticism was that I ordered the sweet & sour pork for takeout and it was missing the sauce, pineapple, and vegetables. I was pretty much served just fried pork with no flavor. Meanwhile the Bulgogi came as expected. I'm not sure how they could advertise something on the menu and it's missing the essential ingredients. So I would be cautious if you order takeout and make sure that the menu matches what you get.
